I'm about to start taking my two young boys camping and as we only have a 4 birth tent space is in short supply.  I have a 5 and 2.5 year old - though both pretty short! Haha

I've seen online a few children's air mattresses - one of which has raised sides and one which is just slightly smaller in length/width.

Do kids slip/roll off air mattresses quite easily that it's worth having raised sides?  I wondered if this would also mean they couldn't get too close to the sides of the tent when asleep?

Many thanks

My friends daughter had an Outwell kids airbed and it was awful, more like a plastic beach lilo than a proper airbed!

Have you looked a the red and blue rubbery airbeds from Argos? These are slightly narrower than others and we just manage to squeeze these into our small weekend tent.

I wouldnt worry about the raised sides, if your kid is a "roller" like my youngest they will fall off no matter what! My eldest on the other hand never moves and stays put once he is asleep.

Hello,  Not sure if this will help but we used airbeds for ages with our tent for my son and yes he did roll of them but we put picnic blankets down underneath and he never came to any harm.

However, we invested in self inflating mats from Aldi (12.99)

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_19225.htm

they are quite low on the ground but really comfortable and no worries about falling off.  Plus they are so easy to put up and roll away.

Hope this might help

Jo

Thanks for the replies guys.

I saw those mats in Aldi when I was buying some other camping things the other day!  Could the kids still use duvets with those?  I'm debating waiting till we've survived the first trip to get them a sleeping bag each.

These were the mattresses I was contemplating? http://www.johnscross.co.uk/products/Kampa-Blue-Junior-Airlock-Air-Bed-.html

Those look really good, I've never seen those otherwise I may have tried those myself when my son was younger.

The roll mats can be used with quilts or sleeping bags my son and his friends have used both.

Friends of ours even brought the double one and they thought it was great.

Good luck with your first trip, hope it all goes well.

Our Grandson has always had a single airbed and has always rolled off it  but still sleeps all night on the picnic rug on the floor

sorry it's a bit late but we've been really pleased with the Kampa airbed for our little boy, we do put a bit of foam mat on top for warmth cos I think air beds are cold. When he out grows it he can have my thermarest and I'll get a bigger ne, I'm about 3 stone heavier than when I bought it lol

My 2 boys (3 and 5) also sleep on the kampa kids airbeds. They have been great and I would recommend them. We started using them last season and my son who was 2 at the time had no issues with rolling off them. For extra insulation we put a foil backed picnic rug underneath them and a fleece blanket on top of the airbed. The kids then sleep in their sleeping bags on top of that.

We like our kiddy kampa bed.  My sisters 2 kids (4 and nearly 2) though are going to be sharing a double airbed which fits snugly in the bedroom pod - more than enough room for them both and no worries about falling out of bed.  She tried them in a ready bed and travel cot but they prefered to sleep on her bed!

I wouldnt fork out for a special kids one that they will grow out of ,just get a normal one ,under inflate it so they dont roll off the edge and have a rug or mats down in the pod incase they do :)

My kids don't like airbeds and both slept on the floor during our first camping trip! I've since got them a SIM each, which they much prefer (and no worries about falling off!)
