Mornig all

I have just had given to me a 15kg Calor gas bottle as my onw Alto Gas is such a pain to get filled, its just is the 15kg really too big? we dont get away in the winter and are what I would say are regular not frequent travellers.

What would people recommend as the ideal size for a small 2 berth caravan

I'd have thought a couple of 4.5kg butane (or 3.9kg propane) cylinders would be adequate in most circumstances.

You should be able to exchange your empty 15kg, see Calor's chart.

Another reason for switching to smaller cylinders!

The problem with buying the small cylinders is the gas is so expensive compared with eh larger ones. I would look at the Calor Lite 6kg bottles as they weigh little more than the 3.9kg bottles when full and you get over 50% more gas.

2 x 4.5 Kg Butane or I think the same size cylinders are 3.9Kg Propane for the colder weather.  Last for years between refills.

You can exchange your 15kg Calor bottle for a smaller one at a Calor supplier, paying only for the gas. Propane would be best if you use caravan all yr & as suggested, the smallest 3.9kg bottle would be ideal, but its best to have 2 so you can changeover when one runs out.

If your caravan uses bottletop regulator you will need correct one for whatever bottle you get.

We're brand new to camping and have a 7KG calor bottle. We were given an empty 15kg bottle at our local tip by a chap who turned out to be a caravaner!. We then exchanged it for a 7kg

BP GasLite (glass fibre cylinder) and CalorLite (Aluminium cylinder) come in 5kg and 10kg lightweight cylinders, and are aimed at the leasuire market.

HomeBase are a BP Gaslite stockist.

Calor lite are lightweight steel cylinders containing 6kg of gas. I have not seen an aluminium cylinder in the UK for several years now although I used them about 30 odd years ago and they were great compared with what else was available at the time (prior to 6 and 7 kg cylinders from Calor.

BP Gaslite is butane while Calor Lite is propane.

Cheer All for the advice...But turns out decision was taken out of my hands anyway as they only had another 15kg in stock.

Would like to have gone for the 7kg but seems its in the B Band and can only excahnge with ones in the A Band

Thanks anyway and looks like I am not going to need to refill for a few years now LOL

Hi.

Inner Zone and birder99, I was thinking BP GasLite, so I stand corrected on the CalorLite info.

if you can get the 15KG bottle in the gas locker then i would keep it ,the contents are cheaper (no VAT i believe unlike the smaller ones) and far more economical if you use gas air or water heating
if you want a smaller bottle pop down your local council dump (whoops sorry "recycling" center) and they will have a cage where they will give or for a small "donation" sell you any size you want

Or ask for an empty on your local freecycle. I got one from there to exchange for a full one the right size.

Hi All

Well the gas did actually fit in the gas locker but must admit it did take a bit of fiddling, so now I reckon I probably have enough gas to outlast the actual caravan.

And thanks to those taht suggested the local 'recycling centre' I will certainly bear that in mind if this one ever runs out.

And mikecandsarhab yes I was told originally I had to swap with the same band but then he added he would have done it if it wasnt for the low stock on the 7kg
