I am back again for some enlightenment about Alde Boilers!
In the van I have a Alde comfort Boiler and It works perect on 220v and 12v elec but when I try to start it on gas I get it running for a little while but then it goes out ,its being run on propane gas and the pilot light is not there either. I would like to solve just in case we get stuck some day as we usually always stay in sites with power.
I think I will have to bite the bullet and get it serviced by a Alde serviceman but in Ireland for me that means a five hour drive from Cork to Letterkenny, Co.Donegal.
So I must try some things first before I take the plunge.
Never had that problem with mine so don't know if this will help. Is the caravan level when you are checking it out?, I know van has to be level for fridge to work properly on gas.
Sorry I should have said that I have the manual but even so I have been unable to get it to work properly on gas for any length of time.I know it is a complicated but very good boiler and would love some one to do a demo for me with it, but the chances of that around here are few and far between! Thanks Jennifer I did it every way possible from the manual and still no good.
With gas/electric appliances, the best idea is to run them on the gas regularly, even if only for a short time. That way things do not stick, and spiders do not build nests in your flue.
We use ours mainly on electricity, but turn on the gas too when showering.....that way you get loads of hot water.
We also sometimes use sites (on the continent) where there is only 6 amps, so we need to use gas too if heating is required.
I think your idea of a proper service sounds like the best way forward.
You must have been thinking of me as I got it going perfectly tonight and it started 1st go aswell and the pilot light was there all the time. But I will take your advice about starting it more regularily but with the past winter it was hard. I did try 2-3 times already since early march to get it going right. It was all right tonight. Thanks for your help. Its a comfort 2921 and its 23 years old.
Yeah but whats great is all the parts are still readily available for the boiler ,as they still make it the same today with some slight differences. Its a great system compared to the dry effect of a blow heating system , I never fancied that.Who ever had the van before me took care of it well as everything works bar a few minor broken pieces due to age and wear and tear but altogher its in great condition, when we bought it we didnt know they were a kind of a collectors van.
Olan.
Heading for Roundwood in County wicklow early August for 7-10 days.
Yes, we are very pleased with the Alde system, it was one of the reasons we went for our current van.
Alde are pretty helpful too if you have a problem, though not too great at replying to e mails!
