Hi all

Just a thought!

I was looking at ways to help with storage solutions and i was wondeing if you could use a 12v air pump/deflator for those storage vacume bags and would it work?, this would be a perfect answer to help store more in the TT when towing.

i think it would all depend on the sucking power of your 12v pump...vacuum bags wouldn't work at all with our old pump, so we bought a more powerful one which does work, but nowhere near as effectively as a vacuum cleaner does...now we have an air hammer (manual inflation/deflation pump) which works an absolute treat...

Thanks Moonstone for your reply

I do not own a 12v pump but would consider purchasing one if they did the trick!, they seem cheap to buy and easy to store and with the added bonus of being electric this would mean no manual labour would be involved, i am interetsed to hear that you already use the vac bags successfully with help from an 'air hammer pump' i am interetsed in the pump you currently use so will shop about.

kind regards

Hi Saz5178

thank you for your reply

I did not realise you could use these vac bags without a pump, are they still as effective? if so its a no brainer to go with this type of bag without the added cost of buying a suitable pump.

kind regards

We have tried using a 12v airbed pump,it does get so much air out but nowhere near as good as a home vacuum.
We tried a car vac with poor results so we have just bought an Argos Value vacuum cleaner for £20.It is very small and does a great job.It will also get used give the tent carpet a quick once over now and again.

Vac it down at home but just use roll up technique when we are coming home. I've tried using our Outwell thunder pump but one problem is that the hose and all the adaptors kindly provided by  Outwell don't fit the the vent valve. Friends have fangled their own adaptor out of an empty pop bottle but I'm not that anal. We use bags for all our sleeping bags, pillows, duvets, clothes and towels, wouldn't be without them.

Just don't bounce on them or they will blow! PS try ebay - supermarkets are hideously overpriced, especially when the bags only seem to last for a couple of trips before leaking.

I have the JML ones and some from Home Bargains they do the same job i have a double quilt in one, 2 pillows in another and towels and sheets in another. We use a plug in the car pump for coming home obviously it doesnt work as good as a hoover but we always seem to have a bit more room on the return journey could be as we use cooler box for packing stuff in as it is usualy empty on the way home.

Our pump does a fine job on our vacuum bags but we have to take our adaptor tube off Hoover as pump head doesn't fit over the hole
