What needs clarifying is the statement 'roof bars' , these are quite simply 2 pieces of metal that fit across the top of your car.
To be able to fit 'roof bars' you need something to connect them to the top of your vehicle. Most cars have fixing points, which enables you to just screw a specific kit to the roof and then fit the 'roof bars' to these, there are cheaper options that fit the gap in the door, personally I would avoid these as they tend to damage door rubbers that then could make the rubbers leak, but that is just my opinion.
