My wife and I are in need of a new double airbed and would like some recommendations. We are both a bit on the heavy side and I am 6ft 6in tall. Friends have advised us not to go for the double-height airbeds. We have seen this in Argos and feel that it may be a good solution:
We are new to camping (first full week at Cofton last week) and are not looking to spend a fortune, but want something better than a supermarket special.
There was a thread on here about coleman comfort double air bed prices, Places that were selling for £19.99 (worth a search for the thread, that's a good price). It's a single height, double bed with two chambers that you inflate separately so if one likes the bed harder/softer than the other you can have it how you like. It can take 270 kg combined weight. I have seen others say they have had problems with these beds going down. However, I have had three of these for 5 years, one 'went' on our first holiday of the year in February, but I strongly suspect this was more to do with my daughter's abuse of it than a failure of the product! The other two are still going strong, have been used for a fortnight at a time without needing air top ups etc.
There are lots of options, this is the one that has worked well for me. Full product details
Out of interest, what's the issue with double height airbeds ? One would have been next on our shopping list, as I'm struggling to get up from our current single height (double width) airbed, and don't like the folding campbed type/.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
Have tried several over the years and found that (in general) cheap and cheerful is as good as most.
Having said that, we have recently bought an Aerobed Active which was definitely not cheap. Noticeably larger (width & length) than previous beds and more comfortable too!
However, how long it lasts until it gains an untraceable puncture (just like all the others) is anyone's guess!
I remain unconvinced (at this stage) with regards to value!
It's a great bed versatile in that it can be split into 2 large airbeds. I actually prefer the height it gives, I feel more supported on it, perhaps because it's 2 together, rahter than wallowing on one large one.
Whatever you decide to go for, make sure you put something that insulates the top and bottom of the airbed because in essence you are sleeping on cold air. Picnic rugs are good to use, with sheets on top.
I actually have the insulating underlay that goes under laminate flooring on mine, with a sheep skin style sheet on top.
I always recommend the Outwell Flocked Excellent. I have the single version and it is very comfortable. They are slightly larger all round than normal airbeds so check the measurements will fit your bedroom pod. They are not advertised as 'double height' but they are certainly higher than the average airbed.
We tried lots of others, these have been great and we are into our 4th year. They are bigger than the normal double at Mattress Dimensions 60” x 80” x 18” No roll together and a good nights sleep. Recommened to friends who also rate them highly. The walls seem thicker than all other airbeds we've tried (these ended up in the bin).
best price I've found in that link.
ps check they will fit in your bed pod.

I have the Vango Flocked Double and it's more than adequate. It stayed up all weekend and was very comfy (I'm a little over 6ft and 16st). The only downside was that it seems to absorb any condensation from inside the tent and so had a 'dampish' feeling in the exposed areas.
Excellent value for money too. I got 2 doubles plus the 'matching' pump for £32.
