We've been trying to find somewhere that would sell a gas spanner (for a calor gas regulator)in North or East London, but it is incredibly difficult. Tried Halfords, B&Q, Wickes, local ironmonger that sells calor gas.

Have ordered a couple online hoping one might have arrived by now, but not yet. We are due to set off this weekend.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, change it to a hand wheel screw type. You don't need a spanner at all and it's less restriction inside the locker.

 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Propane-Calor-Gas-Regulator-LR2107H-Handwheel-37-Mbar-/220794106394?pt=UK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories&hash=item33685ab21a

I have been using one of these for the past 4 years and I find it much better than using the type with a spanner. The domed end is made of rubber not brass as on the spanner type therefore it creates a better deal with less chance of any gas leaks.

I had a large spanner in my shed and used a grinder on the jaws to make them a bit wider to fit the bottle, I also cut it in half as I did not need the other end.

If you are only connecting a couple of times you can probably get away with a pair of Mole grips or a large adjustable, both of which will be available at the suppliers you've mentioned.  The only problem with mole grips is that they may slip and round off the connecting nut slightly, just be careful.  The adjustable should be fine as long as it will fit in the gap in the collar of the bottle.

A builders merchants should sell them as the brickies use calor heaters to heat the buildings there working in.

If all else fails, I imagine you'd be able to borrow one on site, either from another camper/caravanner or the warden/manager.

Large adjustable spanner is all you need. I got one from 'Wilkinsons'.

Car boot sales and markets usually have them cheap. Attachment for picture only.

Yep - we also use a large adjustable spanner. Useful to get the rock pegs out at time too...

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!
