So glad you havent let it put you off, especially since it actually sounds quite stressful and horrid. I have been camping for about 15 years now and never encountered behaviour such as you describe. When I have read about it on here, it does seem to be on larger sites, but even on those it seems it is often a one off blip in the reviews. It's a shame there's no way the campsite owners can review us campers, it might prevent such yobs getting a pitch!
I am in Cheshire, there are quite a lot of lovely sites potentially close to you (don't know which bit of Manchester you are in). Elm Cottage, Fishingpool Farm, Shays Farm, Delamere C&CC club site, Birch Farm to name but a few that are reviewed on here. I use the site search on here as my bible tbh, even if i find a site via another source I will come back here to check the reviews before booking. It's not always whether the site is 'good' or 'bad', it can help you to work out what type of site is for you in all kinds of ways.

hi there!
Glad you managed a trip out - shame about the noise etc.... I would encourage you to leave a review on the campsite reviews search thingy on here - cos they really help all of us that are on the look out for new campsites and your experience would certainly put me off!!
I have been camping all my life (over 30 years) and never had any real trouble so hopefully yours will be a one off. I love camping and thankfully my 2 kids and hubby have become just as obsessed!!
this site is a fab place to pick up hints and tips - and links to bargains (you can never have enough camping equipment!!)

If you are buying a roof box I deffo agree with shopping around. On ebay many people sell roof bars as being for a certain kind of car, which can mean they go for a bargain. In fact some of the bars themselves will go on any car - certainly thule will - they just require a different 'footpack' which can also be bought off ebay for much less than they are in Halfords. I went in Halfords to note down which feet their catalogue listed for my car and their price for it (sorry Halfords!) and then found them cheaper off ebay.
The following link helps you to find things on ebay which are collection only in your area:

There do seem to be quite a few roof boxes AND trailers on ebay at the min. Don't forget all the others though - gumtree, preloved, local papers, and freecycle (people in Hale Barns don't want to bother selling stuff!). Roof boxes are not entirely much of a muchness either, some of them open either side, others only one etc. I also wish I had thought a little further ahead when buying mine (they are durable, my Halfords one is 10 years old and on the car for at least 6 months a year) and got one of the long, narrow ones so that now my daughter is older I could put her bike alongside it, so it's worth giving some thought to what you mind want/need in the future.
ETA I am also a member of the C&CC and the CC and have never had a problem with noise after 11 on club or certificated sites, in fact generally things get much quieter after about 9 and there is usually a lovely atmosphere.
