Sort of related as I wanted to take one of these off camping.

Has any one had experience of the inflatable kayak's? I was looking at the 2+a child ones and was wondering if they actually work!

We have had a lot of fun with our inflatable kayaks - a 1 seater and a 2 seater. They were the K1 and K2 models and cost between £50 - £90 each. They have taken a real thrashing from our kids, who have tended to spend more time with them upside-down and using them as a floating platform to dance on and jump from into the sea.

We have also had fun messing about on rivers with them. Having said that, I don't think I would have risked any extended river trips with them. I know there are more expensive models where the plastic inflatable bladders are protected with a stronger canvas like fabric. There are probably safer if you were to be really relying on them staying afloat!

One comment about the 2 man versions is that being inflatable they are less rigid. We used to find that carrying them was more difficult as they would sag in the middle and would be just a little too flexible in the water. I used to enjoy the one man far more as it felt more sturdy and was more manouvreable.

Anyway, just my ponderings for what they are worth ...

I have the two man Pathfinder, that I use solo on my local river and sea. I've found it stable and rigid. The main problem, is that it is not as quick as a rigid kayak/canoe, so not as good if you want to travel over a longer distance but great fun and convenient.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Would a 2+1 take my weight (14st) wife (9st) daughter (1.5st) or can some one show me an approiate kayak that would suit our needs? I have heard that some of the 2+1's are not that good and would not take 2 adults and a child as the boat isnt ridgid enough

I have the Tahiti which is the next model up (lime green coloured one) which is basically the same kayak as the one you are looking at, only difference really are the seats. I have found it to be an extremely well made kayak which carries 2 adults with ease and is very stable so more than suitable for children, my 6yr son and 8yr daughter go on the lake in it on there own, "life jackets on of course". with no problems.

In hind sight I think the model you are looking at would have done rather than the more expensive one I eventually purchased, (pressure from the kids they liked the lime green colour)

My only advise would be shop about as there are some good deals out there, I saved about £40 by doing this. Also bear in mind the Riviera comes with a paddle where as the Tahiti doesn't.
