We have an Outwell Nevada M and have broken a pole. We can buy replacement poles no problem but the Nevada M uses two diameters of pole, 11mm and 12.7mm with a reducing ferrule to join the two different sizes.

The one we have broken is an 11mm one and it has to join onto a 12.7mm one. We have managed to get it out of its special ferrule (one end 11mm, the other end 12.7mm) but our problem is that all the new poles have ordinary straight ferrules and we need to remove this in order to fix it into the special ferrule.

We think they are glued in with something. any ideas how to a) remove the straight ferrule and b) what do we glue the 11mm pole into the reducing ferrule with???

I've just spent a very frustrating evening replacing sections on three poles, good result though, 'cos my favourite tent which was trashed is now ready for use again.

The pole kit I bought had one section with no ferrules, which would have been ideal for you, in fact I did wonder why that was supplied, now you've explained that .

How long are the replacement poles ? Would it be possible just to hacksaw off the ferrule ? The completed pole would only be a couple of centimeters shorter that it was originally and I would think with most tents that would not be critical.

The kit I have advised gluing the ferrules on with non water based glue, I'm intending to use super glue.

I have had to repair a number of poles in the past and ive found an open ended spanner tapped against the ferrule usually breaks the glued joint allowing it to slide off.

To re-affix the ferrule on the new pole ive used evo stick as it gives you chance to glue both socket and pole but dont let the glue dry before you push them together as you would in a normal contact glue scenario.

You can usually break the bond between the ferrule and the rod by gently twisting with a pair of pipe grips.
superglue works a treat to refix them.

Hi and welcome

Just make sure the replacement section is longer than needed and cut to length thus cutting the ferrule off in the process
