Hi, I have just recently been given a parafin lamp and wondered if anyone knows what type and model, how to use (safely), or where to get instructions for the lamp? I wont be using it for camping but as I live in the country and prone to power cuts without warning it would come in handy. It's definitely not the type you can cook on as it has a rounded top and doesn't look like the upper top section can come off. I'm not even too sure of the make or model because after looking on the web they all look similar. It has Anchor written on a wheel that I presume regulates the supply of fuel. It also has a pressure gauge, a pump, lighting flue and is from 'Blacks of Greenock'. Looked on their website and couldn't find this particular lattern.
If anyone can help and point me in the right direction of any useful websites or if you know what type of lattern this is I would be much appreciated
Anchor are a general run of the mill pressure lamp along with a few others reached their zenith and have lasted decades.
petromax is a clone so heres instructions for them !
WARNING your is a paraffin lamp not able to use petrol as a few do but the initial instructions are fine

as lamps go they are pretty safe once you get the hang of them ,i have always wondered why tilly's are so highly prized when theres anchors ,aidas and petromaxes around stillthe only downside of them is they are noisy ,we have 3 for power cuts at home but tend to use our Aladdin mantel lamps as they are quiet and quicker to light
decades ago we took pressure lamps camping but the glass is fragile and dribbles when they leak annoying ,we went to gas and now electric
We use a Tilley paraffin pressure lamp and it's usually the brightest lamp on the site. Much nicer light than LEDs and will even warm up the tent on chilly evenings.
Wow, so many responses. Thank you for all your posts, Valbarley just love your picture and Steve, a torch and bateries just don't have the right lighting or heating
Thanks again, you've all given me some great places to research for extra parts too.
