thanks to all who replied to my post re sleeping bags for the children - i went with halfords urban escape 300s in the end - hopefully they will be toastie! But if anyone has had a bad experience with them, please let me know!

Also - can anyone recommend a good lantern to take camping with us. We have a campinggaz fuel lantern which we will use outside, but need something to hang up inside the tent - maybe battery or wind up - something with a good long life.....anything jumping out at you? Would really appreciate your advice. Many thanks, Michelle.

thanks, Michelle.

From what I have seen either the Outwell 300LX or the brighter 400LX are about the best, although they only have 3 or 4 LED's they are the super bright Cree LED's.

The 300LX runs of 3 "D" cell batteries and the 400LX takes 6 "D" cells, so two sets of rechargeables shouild ensure you are never in the dark.

The Outwell lantern is also marketed by various other brands, from around £30.

Another reasonable Lantern is the Aldi type that use a 7w flu-tube and takes 4 "D" cell batteries, probably about as bright as the Outwell 400LX, but the light from a flu-tube is harsh, and seems to attract evey flying insect from miles around, more so than other lighting types.

Although bright these type of Lanterns are no brighter than a 40watt light bulb in old money, your single mantle CampinGaz Lantern is equal to a 80watt bulb, so twice as bright as the above, give it a few years, and LED Lanterns will be as bright as thier Gas/Parafin counter parts.

Outwell LX300 is an excellent lantern. There are slightly cheaper versions available on Amazon though under different brands.
They use 3 NICHIA LED's which give off a very bright, warm coloured light not like a traditonal harsh white light from an LED.

I bought a Hi Gear tube lantern before I went away last week. It did the job brilliantly.
