The hook on normal wire pegs would anchor the cable, but I would only do it adjacent to the table. If you pegged the cable between your tent and the EHU point you would be creating a dangerous trip hazard that would not give if someone caught their foot on it.

Ive never seen a hook up cable pegged down on a campsite, Ive never seen anyone trip over one either, usually people run them along side their unit and away to the rear.

I would have thought there was more danger of someone tripping over the pegs. I think you could get round the problem by routing the cable carefully so its up against the tent and then leave some slack where it starts to go across open ground and also some slack at the electric bollard. Over the time you are at the campsite the cable will gradually sink into the grass so less likely for someone to be trip over.

I always try to leave a loop of loose EHU cable at both ends so if anyone does catch it with their foot it does not pull on the plug or the tent. A lose loop allows the cable to be pulled with no risk of damage.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I did that in using EHU first time in June, no problems but I understand the concern.

As suggested, run the cable from the power supply pillar to the rear of the tent (along the rough at the bottom of hedge or fence if you are next to one) then run it around the base of the tent tucking it just underneath if possible. Inside the tent, keep the sockets in a secure dry place off the ground and run the cable behind tables or boxes out of harms way.
Not wishing to preach but it is not a good idea to use a stove inside a tent anyway, especially with kids running around. It will always be a fire or scalding hazard and cooking inside the tent will create ship loads of condensation. Better to cook outside under a canopy or in a utility tent. Heaters used inside the tent should be of the type which cut out if knocked over.

I might be old fashioned but cooking on an electric stove would destroy my idea of camping, as would things like hair straighteners, DVD players etc.

No, nor have I. If the cable is coiled correctly after use to obviate kinks then unrolled carefully it should lay flat. It may help to tread the cable down along its length so it is as close to the ground as possible. If you are worried about attached equipment being pulled over then leave some slack coiled beside your tent or lash the socket block to a tent pole.

will def. coil it up by the tent so if anyone does trip over it it won't destroy the tent!
Never coil it up when in use or it will heat up, just like the coiled element in a heater. Snake it on the ground to take up any excess length.
