We have just returned from a four night camping trip, which was the first time we've been away with our youngest child who is 18months old.
We decided to take a folding picnic table so we'd all have somewhere to sit and eat. Unfortunately this seems to be a complete piece of rubbish!
Even though my husband and I are slim and the kids don't weigh a lot sitting at it was very precarious and wobbly and I expected the whole thing to collapse - one of the fold out seats broke after the third day of use.
Any suggestions for an alternative? We are very limited to space in our car so the smaler something is the better. I was considering a roll top table but I doubt our youngest would be able to reach the table!
sit on the floor..... at least you cant fall any further. lol
Those picnic tables are c##p, we had one and then someone left one behind at a campsite, both of them were left behind when we left, both fell apart and were dangerous.
We now have some folding chairs and a table, they are not the right height for each other so meal times are a challenge, but thats what camping is all about!!
------------- Never look down at anybody....
.....unless to offer a hand, to help them up
If it is the cheaper plastic picnic table then they are very flimsy and are not much use for anybody other than small children!
We have one of the aluminium picnic tables with the attached seats, the aluminium ones are excellent and very sturdy. Each seat is rated up to 110kg so no problems with stability.
Only thing is they are quite a bit more expensive, we paid £55 for an Argos one, but worth every penny in our opinion!
We got a set from Tesco its a folding table and seperate seats which fold into the table when not in use, its ok for us but we don't take it often and as someone said we actually sit on the floor on cushions round a little rolled up table lol
When our youngest was little we used to seat on the floor, in fact when we have a bbq we still do! We use one of the low height backer-style tables to put the food on. We've also got one of the roll-up tables and use deck chairs now they are slightly older.
Hey,
We found a great picnic blanket makes a great alternative to one of those difficult and often unstable folding tables. Picnic Blankets are versatile and comfortable and it saves all the pain of carrying a cumbersome table. My suggestion is a picnic blanket for sure. really worth the investment (less than a table!)
We had one for years bought from Argos, now wobbly but had years of use, we don't use it anymore, we use a folding table and just use our folding chairs a pillow or folded sleeping bag would let the tiniest kid reach it.
------------- I'm working class, I do what I have to do, to get by.
The two bench seats fit inside the table for storage so althought it isn't as small packed away as the blue tables and seats it's still easy to find space for it. It's about 112cm x 66cm x 10cm so fits into most boots flat.
It is quite heavy, but as it's Molded Plastic and steel frame it's very sturdy.
