You definitely need a purpose made RCD protected unit. You can tell the difference as soon as you touch them, the orange cable is thicker and heavier than the ones you get on an ordinary domestic extension lead.
As has been said, don't leave it tightly coiled when in use. I leave a small amount of spare next to the hook up bollard and loosely coil the rest next to my unit - so that there is slack in case anyone trips over.
It is not worth the risk of scrimping on this, damp and electricity are very dangerous bed fellows but shopping around can reveal some major differences in price. Check aldi and lidl websites (i think you may be too late for them from there this season though). If you are going to look on ebay there are some genuine campers selling off the real deal, but i would recommend going to a camping supplier first so you can look at them for yourself, then you will know what you are looking for.
Welcome to the site and happy camping!
