I ordered the Sunncamp Baby Uno Stove from Amazon at the end of last week and received it yesterday in the post. My initial reaction is that it looks cool, is quite retro and dinky, although I'm not sure that I like that the gas cannister sticks out the back by a good third of the cannister.

My last gas cannister stove bit the dust a few weeks ago as the gas was not feeding through properly but then it was maybe five years old, and had seen a lot of use. I'm in the habit of flicking the 'engage' lever so that the cannister is released each and every time I use it, it's like a natural reflex now!

So the problem I'm having is this, the first time I engaged the cannister in place there was a loud hissing sound that went on for two or three seconds. Then when I clicked the Piezo the flames flashed all around the stove, from the gas cannister side as well. It was only a second but it scared the wits out of me! So I took the thing outside to the wooden picnic table and tried it out a few more times. The loud hissing and the flames don't happen every time, when the cannister engages properly the stove works fine. The cannister is lined up properly and facing the correct way.

I only have one gas cannister which is full, I'll get some more today to see if the problem is a faulty gas cannister. If that doens't work I'm sending it back because I don't want my teenagers making a cuppa with it - I don't trust it to engage properly each time.

Would you send it back?

I would not hesitate to contact Amazon and return it without any further testing with a new canister. It sounds faulty. You had experience with suitcase stoves so you know how it should work. Definately not as you describe.

I can fully understand your concern Mavis. That's why I got my Dad to test it out with a new cannister and after all that the stove is fine. I've tried it myself too and the new cannister engages every time. It must have been a faulty cannister after all.

Pleased to hear that it is ok. With all the bad news recently about some stoves exploding I err on the cautious.

Sorry to butt in - can I ask if this stove is much smaller than the normal suitcase stoves when it's in the case? I was pondering getting another as we love our suitcase stove, but also love the look of this little one. Can't seem to see much info about it though.

Thanks in advance!

It's quite small, and the case is too. The gas cannister sticks out of the back of the stove by about a third of it's length. The cannister has to be removed before putting it in it's box. Its a shame they didn't make a standard sized one but with the same retro styling.

I've just added a photo of the case in my gallery. I'll try and get some more pics added but it'll be later tonight.

Thanks for that Victoria, much appreciated. I don't need it for another month so will have a think about it.
