Hello

I've been flicking through the pictures of other peoples set ups etc (Of which i'm envious of so many...lol) Some of these have a number of electrical components all in the same picture. TV, Console, Fridge, Heater etc. Its got me thinking, how exactly do you go about getting so many items going at once? Or do people simply only use 3 at a time? Is it possible to use a household adapter to create more than 3 sockets from your EHU?

I didn't think this was possible so just more than curious. We have more than 3 items that we take with us that need plugging in at some point but just chop and change whats getting used.

We have a http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/Camping_Site_Mains_Supply_Unit_3_Outlet as our EHU, could you plug more than 3 items into this until it trips for instance?

Noob question I know, as i'm pretty sure 3 is the max anyway :)
Thanks

Yes , it all depends on how much ampage you are allowed on ehu, what the rating on your lead , and your total usage ,, need a calculator too now ,, ; )

We usually take several multisocket extensions away with us - our ehu lead has the sockets vertically so with one adaptor style plug in, we can only use 2 of the sockets, bad design. It just means that everything we take (lights, radio, heater, kettle) can always be plugged in, just not all switched on! Also means we can run cables to different parts of the tent.

For our setup we use a green outdoor extension fed through to the kitchen tent, then we have a normal household extension plugged into that.  We've never had a problem with it but are always aware of not having on everything at the same time (particularly high powered items).  For us it means not having to plug and unplug stuff all the time

I use an extension lead running from my EHU lead.

One socket of the EHU is permanently in use by the mini fridge which takes a minimal amount of power. I then have my (switched) electric light plugged into the second socket permanently, so I can switch it on easily in the dark without having to fiddle about trying to plug it in. Then the third socket is used for a switched 4 gang extension lead which I use for various other things but mainly the heater, enabling me to be able to move the heater wherever I want it.

You could plug 20 items in if you have enough sockets. Just make sure that you do not exceed the campsite ampage supply by having too many items running at the same time. You need to know what ampage each of your items is drawing, and make sure that if used together the total does not exceed the campsite's supply (10 amps in most cases). The idea isn't to keep plugging things in until the fuses trip, but not to trip them in the first place

these are the 3 common amps used with the amount of wattage you can use on each.all electrical items will have wattage on them,so just add up and don't go over.

6amp=1380watts

10amp=2300watts

16amp=3680watts

You may find this link useful http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=81

If you scroll down to the bottom you will see a conversion chart watts to amps. I have a chart printed off and take it camping with me so that I can instantly see what my appliances are using. However, you gradually get used to your own gadgets and get to know what is safe to use together. The rule of thumb is not to use two 'heating' items together which tend to draw a high ampage i.e. switch off the fan heater before switching on the electric kettle or toaster etc...or the washing machine and tumble dryer
