Hello

Wonder if anyone could help?  I have a spare sky + box and wondered, if I bought a dish for the caravan could I connect this and receive free channels thru my sky box?  Or do I have to buy a receiver?

Thanks

Gill

your spare box will receive the free to air broadcast with any dish (that meets skys requirements), you could attach the dish to a pole and connect that to your tow hitch on the van.

We are taking our old dish & new Free-sat PVR away camping so we can watch the recorded programmes & our 2yr old can watch Thomas the tank (when we have the expected English Summer Rain).

Get a satellite finder to align the dish and your sky box should work fine . If you still have the sky card for the box take it as you will receive more channels . Also the better the dish the better reception you will get .

You would normally connect your SKY + receiver to a TV using a scart lead. I would suspect that your PC Monitor is not equipped with a scart socket however, even an old CRT TV would suffice as long as it has a scart socket.

In this country and northern France a 40cm satellite dish would be adequate but would probably need to be equipped with a twin LNB to enable you to watch one channel whilst recording another.

Please be aware that I have no experience of SKY +. I originally started out with a basic SKY receiver (FTA channels only) before progressing to a Humax Foxsat HD recorder.

Setting up the dish can be something of a pain the first time so try setting it up at home before venturing on a site. If you want a step by step guide just ask.

Spikemike has found you a bargain . I have seen these set up on a rotary clothes line so you should be able to peg it down or attach it to an aerial mast. Some small dishes may not get as many channels in certain areas. just remember line of sight if there are a lot of trees or other tall things in the way it could effect reception. This website maybe of use.

Check out this "new on the market dish".  It does not require a stand and is fitted with mini spirit levels to help set the elevation and azimuth.  It's very sturdy, you can even sit on it!

I think that a lot of thought has gone in to the design of this dish.

Not cheap though but good products never are!

£99 POUND HOLY SMOKE for that price I would expect ALL WORLDWIDE CHANNELS.

The one from ebay is the same as our one on the outside of the house, works a treat and EASY to set up.

We have recently changed from $ky to FRESAT, we have a HUMAX FOX SAT HD PVR we can still record programmes on it and copy them to a memory card and watch them on our laptop, and its BETTER than Sky+, oh and there is no monthly fee to pay.
