Hiya all, looking at getting a couple of Sleeping Bags, and being a bit 'broader in the shoulder' I'm after a large bag. I've been looking at the Vango Astral Super 350 and the Gelert Spirit Deluxe DXL, both of which are envelope style bags with a 110cm width. The Gelert is cheaper (found it for £26) , but the blurb says it's waterproof, which makes me suspicious - wouldn't it be very 'sweaty' (I can't imagine at that price that it's going to be very breathable).
Has anyone got experience of either of these?
------------- It was like that before I started....
I have a Vango Astral 450, which I guess is similar. Its big, its a sleeping bag - what else do you want to know?
Oh, its very warm and comfy, loads of room for the dog to sleep on the bottom of it, neat bag to keep it in. The downside is that the lining is burberry check, but, hey, I can take the flak.! MT

Yes we have a couple of Vango 350s. Very comfortable. I could not sleep in my old mummy style bag but the Vango has loads of legroom .It is a bit on the large side when packed ,even in its stuff bag. I would recommend it though.
Try the Coleman Chestnut range, easily the best square cut bag i have ever used. not cheap , but totally worth the money, Mine is in blue, here is a link
The pic and description does not do it justice, there are excellent zip baffles, the top will draw in on a toggle adjuster and velcro, and they can be zipped together to make a double. And yes it is huge, this enables the bag to lie better and prevent cold tunnels prevalent in smaller square cut bags
Just go for the best VANGO you can get.... top bags & good value for money. we use the x-lite, but have about 12 VANGO sleeping bags in all. We have used that make for the last 16 years and always been happy with the performance, Even the dog has one lol...

I have a Vango Astral 350 Super and the wife has an Astral 350 regular. I can recommend the Super as I find the regular a bit on the small size around the shoulders. Worth the bit extra for more comfort. They appear to be good bags for the money with a nice warm brushed cotton like inner.
I ordered mine on the net and was initialy sent the vango wilderness bags by mistake the Astrals are far superior.

Yep I agree, unless the sleeping bag is made of a breatable membrane (expensive) you dont want a 'waterproof' sleeping bag. Very sweaty, cold and horrible.
I suspect its a typo, there is no need for waterproof sleeping bags in normal use anyway, unless its all you have to sleep in halfway up some Alpine rock face.
I have the Gelert bag and a Vango bag, Gelert is square bottomed and vango is mummy shaped, I prefer the Gelert as I prefer to move around in the bag and the Vango is more restrictive.
