I've found what looks to be my ideal camping chair from Halfords, but there are none in stock anywhere near me.  Is Urban Escape the Halfords own brand?  If so, do they make things under any other name - could I find it elsewhere online perhaps?

 

Thanks.  I'm currently contemplating a trip to Barnsley - I wonder how I can convince the kids that is a holiday treat?

My Camplet Trailer Tent, Dutch I think, has an Urban Escape cooker in it so I doubt if they are Halfords own brand but I would say that the cooker is a well made and designed piece of kit.

Barnsley is right on the edge of the Peak District, how could that not be a treat!?

A lot of companies these days don't actually make anything themselves. It's all manufactured by OEM companies, many of which will even design the products. The only input from the brand name might be in the choice of colours or maybe quality control issues.

Obviously companies like Vango and Outwell design their own tents which will be exclusive to the brand, but items such as tables, chairs, cookers etc... might be sourced from OEM companies who also supply Gelert, Yellowstone or Kampa.

Yes, I would imagine it would be highly likely that Urban Escape source their chairs from an OEM who also produce the same chair for other brands.

I agree. Many brands are little more than a purchasing department and a marketing department. I suspect they buy generic stuff from Chinese factories like many other companies.

I just bought a couple of their camp beds for the kids and they appear to be same beds as my Kampa one. I can't say whether they're from the same factory or have the same quality control.

Maybe Halfords have bought Urban Escape? Sports Direct buy falling brands like Karrimor, Dunlop and Sondico.

Good point. Important not to confuse the two.

While a chair makes a passable if severely limited shelter from the wind, you should never sit on a windbreak.

Just showing as others have a good similarity to other brands across the range as been described above with the cookers and camp beds above.. all Chinese stuff churned out of the same factory with a different name and coloured differently and priced to suit the brand snobs ;)

I wouldn't bother with Urban Escape chairs. I got two, had to bin them after one season. They fell apart.

I now have Decathlon chairs, they are much stronger.
