After a little nose around Blacks, my dear daughter pestered me into buying Sporks. http://www.blacks.co.uk/camping/chairs-and-stools/cookware-and-utensils/product/096566/LMF-SPORK-4PK-ASSORTED-0.html?attribute=4812848

Her thinking is that they will be brilliant when we go to Cub camp (logical for an 8 year old I guess).

Has anyone tried them before? We're going away at the weekend and she thought we could try them then (I shall take the normal cutlery just in case

)

For the kind of cooking we do when camping - which means little that needs to be held with a fork while it is cut with a knife - they are great. If you tend to barbecue steaks, they won;t be.

Depends what you are eating. I keep one handy in the car and have used one at camp.

For most meals while camping we use nothing but sporks stakes a little tricky lol my kids would use them in the home too .stock them in your bah when your off out ace for fish and chips or the ice cream on a tub with the silly spoon .for simple design light weight there one of the best things for camping picnics etc

they look fine for things to keep in the car in case you fancy a little something to eat when you're on the move, but unless everything you cook back at the campsite is soft you're going to have problems cutting up your food...

They can break with anything a little tough but we have some for emergency picnics. We tend to use the cheap metal slot together sets for picnics (wilkinsons had some last year), which only cost a couple of quid and come with the standard knife, fork and spoon combination.

use them for travelling light camping, always have a penknife on hand if I actually need to cut anything before eating it but the I tend to cut things up before cooking to save that hassle

We have Sporks for camping and picnics . I have one in my bag ( with Swiss Army knife and a mini Maglite ) at all times

I also seem to collect unusual coloured ones , my daughter got me a baby pink one ( I got her a silver coloured one )

Had a day out with Mum , ended up at the coast for fish and chips ; Mum was struggling with the wooden fork from the chippy , she was so jealous when she saw my Spork

I'll have to carry 2 when we go out next time

Yup, we swear by them too...I even have one in my desk drawer at work as someone keeps nicking the cutlery from the staff room!

We managed to find a left handed one for our 7 year old. I made the mistake of putting it in his school lunchbox and it has never been seen again

I bought some Sporks about 30 years ago from Lakeland, when there was only the one shop open somewhere in the Cotswolds. lol.

My kids thought they were the pits, but I notice they still have a set each in the kitchen drawers.

I think they are very useful and wouldn't be without them!

I have a stainless steel set which I was given by a marketing manager for the company retailing them. They were a very new thing then - probably about 30 years ago - and she asked me to try them out because she knew we were campers. I still use them now.
