I don't see any issue with chucking it somewhere it can't be seen and where it will rot down into the soil, eg. in some brambles or unmanaged long grass which isn't part of a pitch. I suppose it would be more sensitive to the environment to use Ecover washing up liquid if you do this.
i just wash mine at the tent and then throw the water under the hedge at back of the tent, wouldnt do it though if i was in the middle of a load of other tents
I put them in the wash basin with the liquid and take to the wash facility, wash and rince then return back to tent to dry them with towel and pack.
The less stuff I need to take the better. Camping is to get away from all the household items not take them with me. I also use plastic plates and cuttlery, much lighter to carry.
