Since they switched of the Analogue TV system, reception of Terrestrial TV has become somewhat of a challenge at many campsites.

So if you realy wan't to watch TV, a satellite based system, would be the best solution.

All you need is a small Dish, say 50cm max, bigger if you intend going outside of the UK, and a satellite receiver, I found a Sky box in a skip, and it works just fine.

The Dish is best mounted on a Tripod, you can buy ones that are specificly made for a satellite Dish, which can be pegged down at there feet, cost is about £35 for a Tripod, or you could just coble somthing together yourself.

Don't be put of by folk saying setting up a satellite Dish, is like learning rocket science, only those putting up the satellites need that knowledge.

Any TV will do, especialy as you use EHU, we use a very old 10" Thomson CRT colour 12v/mains TV,

When the time comes, we will change it for an LCD TV, but nothing bigger than 14"

The sound on our TV is disabled, so we use a personall wireless audio system, each listner has thier own unit, which resembles a walkman, so we can have the TV as loud as we like, without disturbing other campers, I have only ever seen the personal wireless audio units availble from CPC at Preston.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Basically you need to duplicate what you have at home, with maybe a smaller TV.

Don't understand the comment about the electric heater.

As above satellite is will most likely give you give you a picture where Freeview won't. But it depends on where you go. And for Freeview you need an aerial.
Check the coverage here.

The analogue terrestrial TV system is still alive and kicking in some areas, will not be switched in those areas until next year.

I have a 15.6ins portable tv with dvd and built in Freeview which I got from Tesco for £99 a couple of years ago, and have only once had any problems getting a signal. For long breaks away I have a normal tv aerial on two slot-together poles, for weekends I use a cheap £7 job from Argos and find it works just as well. In fact I'm sitting in my van now on a site in Wales with the tv on using the cheap aerial, I've got the same 77 channels I get at home and the reception is fine.

As far as heating is concerned, there's no reason why you can't watch tv and have heat at the same time - on chilly evenings I usually have a fan heater on at the same time as the tv. It's only if you want to use things like a kettle and a fan heater that you have to remember to switch one off before using the other so you won't trip the electrics.

I noticed on another post, that the OP was looking at going to Northern France, so maybe satellite is the only option.

If, as previously stated you have thoughts of venturing into France then your only choice is really Satellite TV which of course, means buying a satellite dish.

By "standing system" I presume you mean some sort of antenna mounted on a tripod?

A good tripod will cost about £30 to £70 depending on where you buy it so why not save the cost and buy a dish that sits on the ground and doesn’t need a tripod.

http://www.mansar.co.uk/fast-finder-portable-dish-kit-36-p.asp

I have seen this dish and can say that it is well designed and equipped with small spirit levels to help with dish alignment.

OK, it’s not cheap, but knock off the cost of a tripod and it ain’t half so bad!

I purchase an LED Combi TV/DVD + Freeview from Tesco, has the advantage of having a DVD if your not able to get a signal when in the middle of no where. It has freeview and I just got a standard 32 element aerial and fitted a mount to the side of my caravan pointed in the general direction it picks up the signal great. I forgot the mains cable once and then noticed the input was 12v so I plugged in on the 12v of the caravan, hey I don't need 240v to watch TV

Tried one of those sat dish units from B&Q but ended up taking it back, never picked anything up even when I used a sat finder first . Plus just when you want the TV for those bad weather days the sat can sometime loose signal, freeview so far hasn't been effected by the weather .

You obviously haven’t been reading some of the previous posts Netpalmer.

The OP may want to use his set up in France. You can’t receive Freeview in France.

You can only use a Satellite dish and pick up either Sky or Freesat!

P.S.  To set up and aim a sat dish visit www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk
