I'm thinking of re proofing my outwell Vermont xl tent?
Can anyone recommend the best solution and should I set the tent up early next season and treat it or should I just proof it on our first trip?

well if you dont set up and proof it before your go on your trip ,it could well be raining ,so you wont be able to proof it ,so i did mine before we went  in dry weather ,it only takes a short time ,i used fabsil gold in a tin and brushed on with a paint brush and an old cloth .worked a treat

We used NIKWAX this can be sprayed it also works to protect in the sun, and comes with the sparay, took us about 1hour to do a 7 man tent with porch. Spray on dry in 10 mins, sprays white so easy to see where you have done, GoOutdoors sell it.

Fabsil comes in ready made spray cans but the cheapest and best way to do it is buy a half gallon and put it in a spray bottle yourself eg left over kitchen cleaner bottle. When spraying wear a mask and wet the canvas with the spray.Do it before you go away cause the fumes are bad, it evaporates within an hour or so.Any left over can be used to waterproof jackets..did all my fishing jackets with it..

Hi,
Personally I use nicwax, just spray and wipe with a cloth, it waterproofs your tent and protects stitching, most outdoor / camping shops sell it, even some saddlers sell it. Easily found on the internet. I've tried numerous stuff over the years but I find this is the best.

Why do you want to reproof it?

How old is it? How much has it been used?

Tbh there should never be a need to reproof a polyester(nylon) tent.

This reproofing is also new to me, I've got a Outwell oakland xl which is the polyester(nylon) type, so you are saying these don't need reproofing? used for two sessions and had no problems yet.

Thanks

I want to re proof it as on our first trip we left the wardrobe pole in the tent which came through the roof as we dropped it, I took it and had a professional repair done but found it leaking twice which did fix with seem sealer and on are last trip it rained so hard theirs no words for it, which resulted in me spraying the material in the repaired area which did work once again.
So back to the question I wanted to reproof the tent in the damaged area with a second coat, therefore I've decided to spray it all as it can only help .
