following on from my recent post a few days ago about the mould and mildrew removal, spent some time looking on the internet looking at the best way to kill and remove the mould. can only find out that you can kill it and not remove the stain and it gets deep into the material.

so then i'm on a major mission to find a product to remove the stain.

the tent went up last night and i tried every single cleaning product we had in the cupboard and nothing worked.

was in our stores at work today and saw a bottle of Hg Mould removal for bathrooms (worth a try)

came home from work and tried a small area..........BINGO ITS GONE!!!!!

tent is now going back up to treat the other areas if it does not discolour the material

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may have to reproof your tent now.....hopefully not but depending on what cleaning products you used it may have damaged the waterproofing......only way to find out is to see if it leaks in the rain!

It does of course depend on whether it was the tent or the inners that were cleaned. If it was the tent, then yes could have a problem but the 'pods' will be fine.

Hi Gareth + Sam.

I'm tempted to get some of that HG Mould remover myself as we have a similar problem with mildew spots on the roof of our Nevada M and the front mesh inner door.

Did you also use a Milton/Bleach solution to kill the mildew first, as recommended elsewhere on here or just the HG stuff ? Also was it on the inside or outside of tent..? (hard to tell with ours which side its on..). If its on the inside do we still need to re-proof..?

Hi Philyerboots

You'll always need to re-proof when a tents been washed, whether you've washed the inside or outside just to be on the safe side.

Thanks BevSem.

The HG mould stuff turned up today from ebay so we'll be having a go at the tent this weekend thanks to the nice weather. I've also got some of the Aldi reproofer ready as you suggest. Presumably we only need to re-proof both sides where we've used the cleaner..?..I know I'm being a bit thick but I've never cleaned mildew from a tent before.

The interesting bit will be finding enough space to try putting up the tent in our tiny garden..!

Why not pay for a night at a local campsite, then you can do the cleaning and camp out all night...not much chance of rain at the moment, so reproofing should be a doddle. Much better than struggling in your tiny garden

The waterproofer spray/liquid should be applied to the outside of the flysheet
