Thank you all for your very comprehensive answers, webaddresses, photos of stoves etc. It really does pay to ask questions on this site...

I am now armed to the teeth with info. I shall go this weekend to make my thoughtful purchase. I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Blod

If you want pictures of the Ultimate small stove feast your eyes on this;

Small light and powerful, runs on petrol or Coleman fuel.

The Greatoutdoors depot (see here) says of the 123;

"Every article you will come across on the web says that this stove always works. It runs at high altitudes, in rainy weather - you name it. Users report that the life span of this stove exceeds 20 years of year after year use. Very few moving parts and solid reliable construction means that nothing goes wrong with them".

I got the MSR pocket rocket for xmas, its awesome, very light and heats up instantly, it can take a decent size pot but is best used on flat ground.

my mate got a karrimor stove similar to the colman alpine, which is also pretty cool, not quite as small as the pocket rocket but a bit more stable!

cheers

I reccomend the campingas twister. My son has it It can be saparated from it's tank and fits neatly into the two small pans it came with and then packs into a small bag. The small pans are just big enough for a tin of beans or heating up water for tea. He takes it with him to music festivals etc. You can see it in the site shop
