Thursday 28th at Aldi, also fire blankets

Thinking of getting a fire blanket to use under my wood burning stove to catch sparks etc.

hope you don't mind me saying, but if you need a carbon monoxide detector in a tent I take it you use a gas burner through the night. Again, i hope you don't mind me saying but the best thing to do by a million miles is not to use the heater at night, either use an EHU and electric heater or more fleece blankets/ sleeping bags. I've seen thr results of carbon monoxide poisoning and honestly, its not worth the risk. All the best

Hi Brycie,

In my case, it's just yet another safe guard. So many these days. I've camped all my life, doing all the things that are now considered taboo. I do cook and have various lights using flamable fuels inside my tents. Most of my tents are cotton, so not quite the plastic bags all zipped up and keeping all the fumes inside. The biggest concern for me, would be dozing off in the evening after a few drinks and being tired after a long walk or canoeing session, with the pressure paraffin lamps still burning. I have tried to set off my alarm deliberately, and was unable. Cooking etc would not be a concern to me, as I will obviously be wide awake, with doors/vents open.

I have just started to use a wood burning stove, that stayed in all night,  and I was worried about fumes while I slept, perhaps never to wake up again. To this end, I left the rear netting vent window open all night, which is about five square feet of fresh air. I thank you for your concern, and warnings about the dangers of using gas etc inside a tent, which can never be over  stated. Cheers bob

It's a bit delayed, but at the end of October we are having a meet, North East get together, at Major Bridge Park East Yorkshire. Although I can't post photos, I'll ask one of the campers that can, to take some photos of it in action.

I really must learn how it's done.

Regards bob

Thanks for posting Raf

It's not just gas heaters that emit CO - I'm getting a CO alarm as I've bought a paraffin lamp, just as a safe-guard.  A camper died the other year from running a petrol generator outside his tent and, of course, there's been the more recent cases caused by BBQs in tents.  Buying one is money well spent IMHO. I will use it in the house when not camping.

What is carbon monoxide (CO) and how is it produced?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. It is produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels, including coal, wood, charcoal, oil, kerosene, propane, and natural gas. Products and equipment powered by internal combustion engines such as portable generators also produce CO.

just been to our local Aldi and got some lovely microfibre towels. Bath size is £3.99 and 2 hand towels are the same price. Got them in red, navy, white or yellow.
Also got a 2kw greenhouse fan heater IP21 rated for use in damp conditions - thought it might be a bit safer to use in the tent rather than the one we use at home.It runs at 1kw or 2kw and has a cold setting and it has a tilt sensor to turn it off if knocked over - £12.99.
Also got a carbon monoxide alarm!

I got the fire blanket, and it looks like it will be perfect for the job under the wood burning stove.  Not that cheap, as I've had a look on ebay, and even including postage, it was about £2 dearer at Aldi. Unusual. Perhaps it's a better version
