Hi Brycie,
In my case, it's just yet another safe guard. So many these days. I've camped all my life, doing all the things that are now considered taboo. I do cook and have various lights using flamable fuels inside my tents. Most of my tents are cotton, so not quite the plastic bags all zipped up and keeping all the fumes inside. The biggest concern for me, would be dozing off in the evening after a few drinks and being tired after a long walk or canoeing session, with the pressure paraffin lamps still burning. I have tried to set off my alarm deliberately, and was unable. Cooking etc would not be a concern to me, as I will obviously be wide awake, with doors/vents open.
I have just started to use a wood burning stove, that stayed in all night, and I was worried about fumes while I slept, perhaps never to wake up again. To this end, I left the rear netting vent window open all night, which is about five square feet of fresh air. I thank you for your concern, and warnings about the dangers of using gas etc inside a tent, which can never be over stated. Cheers bob
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Thanks for posting Raf
It's not just gas heaters that emit CO - I'm getting a CO alarm as I've bought a paraffin lamp, just as a safe-guard. A camper died the other year from running a petrol generator outside his tent and, of course, there's been the more recent cases caused by BBQs in tents. Buying one is money well spent IMHO. I will use it in the house when not camping.
What is carbon monoxide (CO) and how is it produced?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a deadly, colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. It is produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels, including coal, wood, charcoal, oil, kerosene, propane, and natural gas. Products and equipment powered by internal combustion engines such as portable generators also produce CO.
