Last year at all the VW festivals we went to I noticed loads of people using washing machine drums as fire pits, they seemed really effective (the trade stands were selling them for extortionate prieces), I fancied getting one from our local tip but wondered whether regular sites would allow them as I've never seen one being used apart from at the VW meets.
I want one of those! We don't take anything like that for camping but at home my husband cut out a 50 gallon drum into a chimenea kind of thing lol it's a real heat generator!
We have a little cast iron pot bellied brazier type bbq that you can take the cooking grill off of and then fill with either coals or wood, never been told off yet, used to be about a tenner but think they've gone up to about £15.

I bought one of the Landemann tripod barbeques this year from Amazon . We have a table top gas barbeque but OH has put a cast iron skillet on that for all the cooking so we needed an ordinary barbie. This one is great and the base is on legs about 10 inches off the ground so makes a fantastic firepit. The tripod is then used to hang the gas lantern nearby. I love multi use stuff
