Hi - have just purchased (2nd Hand) a 2 yr old Geist 'van. It is great butI cannot get the gas to the inside of the van. Have tried a new bottle, tried the valve in both the on and off position but cannot get the cooker or
hob to work. Any advice would be SOOOOO appreciated
Assuming that the fire/heater is also not working then it sounds like a faulty bulkhead regulator. These have been known to get bunged up and I think the only answer then is to replace it.
If it is just the cooker not working then:-
1) they usually have an on/off valve hidden away under the cooker or
2) ( I know this sounds silly ) have you got the cooker lid fully open?
If you bought the caravan from a dealer then I suggest a word with them
Trace the gas pipes and check there are no more valves on them (our tourer had the main on-off valve in the gas-bottle box, 3 further valves in the gas-bottle box where the supply split to the outside BBQ point, water heater and fridge/cooker/space-heater, and separate valve for each appliance). Also (and I know I'm probably teaching my grandma to suck eggs, so don't shout at me!) - is the gas getting to the cooker by not lighting/staying lit? If so, check the ignitor is working (won't work without 12V power supply), and you need to press the control knob in to over-ride the flame-failure device, and hold it in for 15-20 seconds once the flame is lit.
Yep,agree with what has been posted already...the first thing I'd do,would be to have a rummage under/in the cupboards,as it sounds as if the isolation taps may be turned off...
Many many thanks. It turns out it is a known fault with Geist (Truma Regulator) and as it is still in warranty they will repair it free of charge. It put a bit of a damper on our first trip out not bening able to have any gas appliance on but hey ho - at least we did nothing wrong / missed a tap or a valve.
To help stop it happening again try and get the pipe from the regulator to the cylinder sloping down towards the cylinder. That is supposed to allow the gungy stuff to drain back into the cylinder.
Where Truma reg's are used, the general consensus(well, over on some other forums) is to carry a spare(identical!)regulator and to make sure that the original reg' can be easily removed if need be(..swap pop rivets for self-tappers etc).
Having said that,as a "get us out of trouble",I just carry a spare bottle mounted reg',with a length of low pressure hose & clip, that I can just slip onto the copper supply pipe..and although the reg is slightly higher, than the bulkhead regs'(37mbar),I've checked the spec' of all the appliances and it within their operating range...
Also swapping the "pig tail" for a stainless steel item is recommended..(..although,surely even they've got a "rubber" linning of sorts?..)
