My van has removable carpets over a vinyl covering, if it had come with only the vinyl I would hsve immediately bought carpets as I detest floors that need washing over every couple of hours because they look a biy muddy. Carpet aborbs the small marks and they do not show, a quick brush every three or four days snd they are like new. But the big plus is that they actually feel nice underfoot.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Older caravans were built with floor on chassis that included carpet glued over entire floor with furniture fixed on top. You could only remove carpet by cutting around furniture. Best bet is just to lay vinyl over existing carpet.
We got a long runner carpet same colour as the main carpet and got all edges bound. This sits on top of the original carpet.
Its easy to remove the runner and clean and it covers the main footfall area, from one end of the van to the other.

Our first van had removable carpets, and I thought this was the norm! The next MH didn't have cartpets, and I put mats down in the winter. Our new van again has removable carpets, that even extend into the cab area! I tend to only put the carpet down in winter, as I am constantly sweeping sand out in summer!!

Its funny that 30 years ago my recollection that most vans had vinyl carpets back then. But complaints led most of the industry to fit carpets. Then fixed carpets was replaced with vinyl and loose fit carpets. My present van has the loose fit and do really think this is the best mix. I was at the show recently and found a carpet company who will do loose fit carpets.
I agree with this. We leave the loose carpets pieces on the bed till we have set up, then a quick sweep over, then carpets down. Its much cosier. We also have a rule of no outdoor shoes in the van, which live in the porch
