Hi folks,

long winded so bear with me! Am after some advice.

I have quite a rare expedition tent that I have used all around the world but sadly on its last outing to Canada, the poles went awol:

http://www.alink.com.hk/Space%20Dome.htm

Anyway, there is as far as I can tell, just the one for sale in the world as there were only 10 made, or so I'm told and the shop selling it, wants £3000 for the lot which is far to expensive and I don't need a whole tent.

So, the original poles are 13mm alloy and I have found a company who will replace them  for a fiver a shot but I need a ridiculous amount of sections so as I am going to retire the tent as an expedition base and just use it in summer for a camping base, I am going down the fibreglass route.

Does anyone know where I can bulk buy heaps of these at a reasonable price? So far I have found the Glasgow Scout shop does a replacement set of 5 for £8 but as you can appreciate, I need heaps! The length of the yellow sections are 60 cm, the grey and black sections are 62/63 cm and there are approximately 220 sections in total. For its size, the tent is fairly lightweight so I'm also wondering if I can get away with maybe 11mm poles as a cost cutting measure, what do you reckon?

Also, I'm quite familiar of how much the fibreglass poles bend so I reckon they are ideal as the total curve of the tent will be much less than some of my older tents. Alloy is good, but expensive and probably not necessary in this case.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, need to source them in slow time so I'm all ready for climbing and camping in the spring.

Thanks in advance, Den

Have you tried:

http://www.campingspares.co.uk/

They were really helpful when we had to get lost poles replaced, might also be worth trying somewhere like Go Outdoors or even E-bay.

How about putting a wanted ad on here?

People 'loose' their tents every year for one reason or another and they may be willing to sell or give you the poles
Have you tried your local freecycle (or similar) group?

you need to go more to the source rather than a camping shop - try herehere or try to get some grp rod and ferrules and cut it yourself. I would think 11m would be fine it looks a ridgid structure.
