I have a 10 litre plastic jerry can/water carrier which works perfectly for carrying water for two people for a few days. Unfortunately, on the last trip, I misplaced the little plastic stoppers which seal the can and stop water leaking when you're travelling. (I know it's somewhere safe, but can't find it anywhere!!!)

For most trips, we don't actually need to carry water with us, but when we do, we're finding the water leaks without the stopper. Please does somebody know where we can buy a spare stopper or two without needing to buy a whole new jerry can? Have tried ebay and amazon, and maybe I'm using wrong search terms, but can't find anything, and jerry can is rendered a bit useless without stopper. Oops...

Cannot help you there as we always use the 5lit. water bottles from Asda or another store use it till the handle is breaking then replace bottle. That way it keeps clean. Not very expensive either, easy to carry one or two at once, as filling 2 will be even loads to carry. But we only have one at a time.

Thanks Bob.  I've not searched for Threaded Plastic Caps/Plugs/Bungs, as they're not threaded, but I'll try a bit more searching on plugs and bungs, as maybe that will yield something!!  Think I may try phoning Gelert too, as they do something similar to what I've got

You could always cover the open neck with a strong freezer type food bag held in place by elastic bands as a tempory measure until the original one turns up.

We also use the 5ltr water bottles from tesco or Asda just for keeping a drop of water whilst traveling, im not sure what size stopper you are looking for as to suggest where you may get an alternative spare from, which may be donated from some other sort of goods packaging.

at Chris Does Stoppers R Us really exist?  That link goes nowhere.

Thanks, romany girl, for the suggestions... I think the freezer bag + elastic band might work, but am always looking to avoid extra faff...

Fixers and Stoppers R Us appears to be a NZ construction site safety organisation (link)!

Pepe's suggestion of a home brew supplier might be an idea - would the plasic caps used in place of crown caps be the right size, or a demijohn bung?

A packet of the thicker gauge elasticated hair bands work well for holding the freezer bag in place, as they are the right size and less fiddly than the thin common bands sold in stationary shops which quickly perish and break when exposed to strong sunlight or dampness.
