I have a very old Calor Gas twin burner stove which I want to use as an emergency home cooker, just in case of interuption to energy supplies in the coming winter.  It is not performing well, with one burner not lighting at all and the other giving a yellow, uncontrolled flame instead of a blue one. It is such a long time since i used it that I cannot remember the maintenance procedure, but there is a jet leading to each burner with what looks like a removable or rotatable clip over it.  Am I right in thinking this clip should be in the 'closed' position, and what would you recommend to clean the jets?

Jets should only be blown through, preferably with compressed air, but you can just "blow" through it.
On no account should you poke anything down a jet, unless you know you have the correct gauge of jet cleaning wire.

Take it all apart, give it a good clean & blow through everything, put it all back together & you should be in business.

Be wary of a yellow flame. This is partially combusted gas & will give off much more carbon monoxide than a blue flame. It's usually caused by not enough air getting through, maybe you've got something in there somewhere, blocking an airway.

If you're still unsure, or having trouble, try taking some pictures & posting them up on this thread. These things are pretty rudimentary though, it shouldn't present too much trouble.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

generally making a tube that will fit on the end of your hoover and butt against the air inlet tube for a good hoovering will fix most problems .
you then eliminate the air side so if its still bad its a gas problem .
most modern cookers dont come apart but you maybe able to clear a jet by sucking on the gas inlet in the same manner

if you have a really blocked jet and can get to it a camping gaz pricker is about the standard size for most cookers as the jets have to be about the same bore as the gas pressure across them all is determined by universal regulators for the gas type
even better if it unscrews take it out and hoover the tube it sits in then the reverse of the jet but keep a hold of it

The opening near the jet with the spring clip should be open. This is where the gas & air are mixed. As said, the flame must be blue. Yellow flame indicates Carbon Monoxide & is extrememly dangerous.
