Jets should only be blown through, preferably with compressed air, but you can just "blow" through it.
On no account should you poke anything down a jet, unless you know you have the correct gauge of jet cleaning wire.
Take it all apart, give it a good clean & blow through everything, put it all back together & you should be in business.
Be wary of a yellow flame. This is partially combusted gas & will give off much more carbon monoxide than a blue flame. It's usually caused by not enough air getting through, maybe you've got something in there somewhere, blocking an airway.
If you're still unsure, or having trouble, try taking some pictures & posting them up on this thread. These things are pretty rudimentary though, it shouldn't present too much trouble.
