Just got a Hammock given me end of last season though not had chance to try it out yet. Its made of a nylon net material with a rope fixing (and a metal ring?) at each end. I was intending to fix it up between the walls of the house and garage and try it out ala Fred Flintstone style - if any good I might take away with me this summer as its very compact. That reminds me that while in Italy last year there was a Dutch group who I passed each morning on way to shower block and one of the guys slept outside in a hammock between 2 trees all night - it must have been confotable as he was still asleep 09:00!
A Navy hammock had wooden spreaders at the two ends, fitted between the small shrouds that support it. It was pulled tight when slung and fitted with a horsehair mattress. It really needs a purpose - built facility to sling it.

I've had one for many many years. I bought it in Italy for about £20 - it has a pull aprt tubular frame with the hammock bit made of nylon rope with wooden spreaders. The rope tends to stretch with use (and it gets a lot) but replacements in Italy are very cheap. I find it very comfortable for the after lunch snooze, and it suits my dodgy back fine! Hypermarkets in France often have them too, just avoid buying in the uk if you can!
I have a hennessy (expidition A-sym) I find it comfy and I'm looking for more place's to use mine, sites with facility d'not seem to give much info. about if hammock are catered for! .This is their home http://www.hennessyhammock.com/ but these are by no means cheap & many cheaper ones are about that have the same amount of comft.hope the link helps dude.

I have an incredibly comfy Mexican hammock I got from Ebay a couple of years back. You can lie along it, across it and diagonally and it can also take the entire family in one go, although be prepared to be a bit squashed if you do. I love it and it hangs in my garden throughout the summer. Indoors and packed away for now! :-(( I was planning on bivvying out in it one night but never got round to it this year and am too wimpy to do it now it's colder.
Warning - don't do what my idiot OH did the very first time he got into it. He had a pair of scissors in his pocket and they snipped through one of the threads! Luckily it's easily repaired with a little knot and you can't even see where it happened but I was not impressed as I'd only taken delivery that morning!
