You can now convert your existing SIM to a super-duper comfort bed, with the new

Dreamtime Comfort Cover

Bit pricey though, eh?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Well we have a couple of the DreamTime XL's, which of course come with the cover, but it's good now that you can get the cover on it's own, to upgrade lesser SIM's.

Also the cover will no doubt have the fastening straps, so that you can connect two SIM's together to make a double.

Although at £83 for the cover, that's only £36 short of the £119 that I paid for each of our to DreamTime XL's.

I wanted 2 of them to go with our new basecamp sims, but had to go with the cheaper option of a memory foam mattress topper(£35) and fitted cover.they do look sooo comfy though.

Have you ever taken the SIM out of your covers, Francais? What thickness is the actual SIM? Is there a name on it? I'm just wondering if they maybe use the Basecamp XL SIM with it, or if they use something entirely different?

Hi Ellesbelles.

I take out the SIM so to give the covers a wash, and air the Foam insert, before we go, probably not required, or advised for that matter, but it's just part of our pre-launch routine now.

The DreamTime XL SIM section is slightly wider (76cm)  than the Basecamp XL (73cm), having just had a look at the SIM in my DreamTime it does appear to be a specific SIM as printed on the SIM section is "DreamTime XL 3408".

The DreamTime XL has 2 air valves, not sure if the Basecamp XL is the same, so that could be another difference, between the two SIM's.

I could not tell you the thickness of the DreamTime XL SIM section alone, as there is no way of measuring it, the stated 9cm of course includes all three components, SIM, Cover and Foam insert.

hope that helps.

When I was spec'ing a SIM to go with my camp bed, I thought about the Therm-a-rest DreamTime XL until I read about how bulky it is.

Hence I have decided on a Luxury Map XL instead.

I may need to rethink, as I am getting a trailer which means space will not be an issue anymore.

DK,

They are bulky, but give a really good night's sleep.

On grass they are nearly as comfortable as my waterbed!

Hi Francais,

I've noticed that some websites give the width of the Basecamp XL as 73cm, but it is in fact 76cm (30 inches) wide and they do have 2 x valves (we have x 2).

I was thinking about selling them and splashing out on a couple of Dreamtime XL SIMs, but then saw these and wondered if it might work out cheaper to get them instead, then we can always use the SIMs on their own when we can't carry the additional bulk.

Still thinking about it, as it seems a lot of dosh for some memory foam (even if it is in a really nice, fitted case).

Hi Ellesbelles1.

I got the width measurements from the ThermaRest (aka Cascade Designs) website.

So it's hard to say weather the DT XL SIM, is the same as the BC XL SIM, at a guess I would say they are, from your findings, could be worth putting a call into Cascade, to get the definative answer on that one.

I'll be using a SIM with a camp bed, therefore, the DreamTime may be a bit OTT.

Some would argue the Luxury Map is also a bit OTT with a camp bed.

Ha, yes I see! they give the measurement alright: 30 in / 73 cm - spot the obvious mistake!

Hi Ellesbelles1.

They need telling about that, clearly both are 30" or 76.2cm in new money.

And maybe you are correct in thinking that the BC XL and DT XL, SIM's are both one in the same?.

I've emailed them, to let them know. It's a mistake that could have cost them custom, eh?

At least it confirms the Basecamp XL will properly fit into the Dreamtime XL cover.

Ellesbelles1 what did you do in the end? Did you buy new Dreamtimes last year or simply buy the cover?
