Last year while on holiday in our caravan the 3 way fitterd fridge stopped working and this was in a period of very warm weather so we had to get something sorted quick we went to argos and ended up buying a small 2 way fridge which works on 12 volt-240 volts and it did the job it worked fine,we had the caravan fridge repaired when we got home and now use the the small fridge in the house as a bottle fridge just for beer its still working fine and only cost about £50 hope this helps you.Ian
One of the best bits of kit I have is a Waeco CF25, although not 3 way (no gas option) it runs of 12v/24v and 240vac.
Works like a proper fridge/freezer, you just dial in your required temp setting, the ambient temp has no effect on this type of portable compressor fridge.
Great for use in the South of France during July, although maybe considered overkill for UK use only.
Had it for 2 years and its been excellent so far. Works great on gas, probably better than electric. Just make sure your tent is well ventilated when using it. Better still, use a Carbon Monoxide detector.
It can take a bit of purging when using gas, but has always worked for us. Been no need to turn it upside down or anything.
Only down side is bulk. We don't use it if we're only going for a weekend (unless we dont have leccy) we use 240v cool box for that.
We have a Groenland 3-way fridge which we bought second-hand in 1998. It's brilliant, never had any problems with it, except when we used it once on gas & my hubby forgot to turn the setting down after he'd set it up - we woke up to frozen milk for breakfast - but that was human error!
It makes ice cubes, and it keeps everything fresh & cold. I think most makes of 3-way fridge work on the same principal, so just go for the one which you can get at a bargain price.
Hi,
We bought the RC2200 last year and it has worked very well on mains and 12v. I think it has thermostatic control on 240v and also kept pretty cool in the car on 12v whilst travelling. We haven't used it on gas as yet. I think the RC2200 cools slightly more than the RC1700 from what I can remember from last year when I couldn't decide which one to go for!! We did also try a portable compressor fridge, but returned it as it was so noisy! Not sure how noisy the more expensive waeco ones would be though.
Hope that helps,
Jon
