If your tent is synthetic a tube of seam sealer would be a good idea, and some shock cord (if needed). Our spares kit also includes:- batteries, guy ropes & cleats, gas mantles, airbed bung, scissors, a universal sink plug, string, superglue, toggles, plus all the other things which other posters have mentioned.

In my tool box in the car I have;
round head hammer, Stanley knife, tenasious tape, rope, junior hacksaw, pliers, screwdrivers, allen keys, scissors and adjustable spanners.
The camping spares are guy ropes, some coloured sticky polyester stuff to cover small holes, klingons, and seam sealer stuff.
