It all depends on what sort of caravanning you want to do really. Some do many weekends away which they will mainly use a porch awning then there are those who venture out for longer periods and opt more towards a full awning. Some have a three quarter awning to provide that little extra space in comparison to a porch awning but in my experience, the time it takes to erect a porch or three quarter awning you may as well have a full awning which I prefer anyway because it shuts the draught out right the way around from rear, across the top and down the front as well. All you need to do then is slide the base skirt in the bottom rail to shut the draught right along the bottom then peg it all out. The other thing I don't like about porch awnings is you can't shut the draught out completely where it fits up to the caravan either side of the doorway and if it's windy it can be noisy from howling winds and can also rub against the caravan side leaving permanent scuff marks on the exterior paintwork. Then there is a choice of materials such as Acrylic, Polyester or Nylon which although is lighter is not as robust as the other two. You may be best to visit an awning display and have a look at the different materials first and then decide which awning will siut your caravanning lifestyle.

As above it depends on what you want it for we have three awnings and use them all at different times for different purposes - obviously if you can get one that fits all then great.  Ours are:

Bradcot Active full awning with easy alloy poles - we use this for week+ long breaks in Summer and abroad.  Its a good quality awning which is up within 30 mins and the panels all zip out so it turns into a canopy in good weather.

Isabella Magnum - part awning we use this for long weekends and week long breaks out of season in the UK.  As a family of 4 we need space and when we use this normally a bit of protection from the weather so this fits the bill as you can get a table and chairs in it and still have plenty of space for items like washing and Cadac and bit of room for the kids to play.  Isabella is a top quality brand of awnings but some bargains can be had on preloved or Ebay

We've just bought an Outdoor Revolution Compactalite 200 little porch awning with lightweight fabric for short breaks mainly for storage of shoes and wet coats as you couldn't really get too much inside it furniture wise.

We were lucky with our caravan as the Bradcot came with it so we didn't have that decision to make so I'd make yourself a shortlist of the awnings which have the things you think you need and go and have a look at some in the flesh.  Good luck x

Thanks Fiona and Tango,

I guess I'm going to use it as you use your Bradcote Fiona, for mainly long weekends with a two week trip in the summer.

Why don't you use your Bradcote for weekends?

So I need to look for one with zip out panels in either acrylic or polyester?

We wouldn't use the bradcot for weekends as it takes just a bit too long to put up just for two nights and also give me that much space - I'd fill it and then it would be far too much packing and un packing.  In fact until this season we have rarely used an awning at all for short weekends but the wet coats and boots, dirty washing etc got too much for us which is why we got the porch awning.  We only had the Bradcot at first and its fine and if you are thinking along the lines of a full awning anyway start with something like that and decide for yourself with experience whether you need to add a porch or part awning to your kit.  Our Bradcot is acrylic and if you are using it all year round then this type of material would be better than the nylon or polyester fabric which can get a bit hot in summer time.

There will be others along shortly who will probably recommend some equally good awnings - Dorema is another popular brand.
