I would advise you to have a read on the free information over at the Camping and Caravanning Club's site on camping with a tent to give you some idea of the basic requirement you may need.
Make a list of what you need, have a look what you can raid from your home or your friends and family, then buy whatever that is left on the list.
Happy shopping!

Hi, and congratulations on your purchase :-) Have you camped before as a family or not? If so, my advice would be to borrow as much stuff as you can, or not to get carried away and spend a fortune, until you are sure that everyone likes it!!
That aside, it is very much a matter of personal choice. We have an airbed and I know some people don't like them and say they are cold and go down all the time etc. but I love mine and didn't feel cold at all last year when we were camping. We took our duvet from home last year but we are going to invest in a sleeping bag this year. We bought the CampingGaz Camping Chef stove and have been very happy with it. We also bought the Aldi electric coolbox - again, no complaints!
We have a tent carpet so I bought a few picnic rugs from Aldi to use as carpets in the bedrooms, and some fleecy blankets from Dunelm for extra warmth on cold nights.
We managed to borrow most other stuff we needed, and are still getting all our equipment together, and while you will get loads of good advice from the lovely people on here, different things work for different people so you have to go with what's right for you and your family
Happy camping!!
Kate.
