Hi all,

Hubby as just come home and told me that he has been to see a man he knows who has his own tow bar business, he said that he fill fit our Ford mondeo with a tow bar and charge us £145 cash, it is normally £158 + vat.

Could anyone tell me if this is a good deal? or could we get one fitted cheaper else where? Hope someone can give us some idea.

Alot depends on the car.  The prices for tow bars vary quite a bit depending on the car as well as from where you go.  We had one fitted to our Zafira last year - paid £150 which was a good price as to buy the bits would have cost about £130.  Some places quoted nearer £300.
When richard was inquiring about the price of parts, we were told that the Zafira parts were fairly pricey - some cars much cheaper.
Its worth giving a few places a ring - compare prices - its worth it.

Towsure quote prices from £66.95 to £96.95 for supply only for the Mondeo

They do fitting as well so it might be worth giving Sheffield a ring

www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.co.uk

The price you have been quoted seems quite reasonable but its always worth having another quote even if it only tells you what a good price the first one was !!

Average price for our punto and a merc were both £150 locally.

Even if not cheap, it is not over much.

See how much extra for a split charger if there is not one already in the boot.  It will come in handy at some point.

HI ILONA&SID

DO YOU HAVE A MK2 MONDEO? IF SO THESE ARE FAIRLY EASY TO FIT AS THE HOLES ARE ALLREADY THERE! LOOK UNDER THE REAR OF THE CAR YOU SHOULD SEE A BOX SECTION RUNNING BACK TO FRONT ON EACH SIDE. ALONG THE SIDE OF THIS YOU WILL SEE 3 HOLES(BOTH SIDES) .THESE ARE WERE THE TOWBAR SECURES.THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU MIGHT HAVE IS THE EXHAUST! ON DEISELS IT IS ONLY ON ONE SIDE BUT PETROL ON  BOTH . GOTO A LOCAL BREAKERS YARD AND HAVE ALOOK.IF THE'VE GOT ONE SHOULD ONLY COST ABOUT £20-£25 +FITTING OR FIT YOURSELF .JUST MAKE A NOTE OF CABLE CONECTIONS COPY THIS ON YOUR CAR .IF YOU REMOVE IT YOURSELF MAKE SURE YOU RECOVER THE SPACERS ON THE BOLTS(LENGTH'S OF TUBE).YOU COULD ASK YOUR GUY FOR A FIT ONLY PRICE!

I FITTED MINE(P REG MONDEO EST DESIEL) COST ME £20 +CHARGER RELAY

HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK **PAUL**

YOU WILL NEED TO RAISE THE REAR OF THE CAR QUITE HIGH 2/3 FEET OR TAKE TOWBAR APART AND REASEMBLE IN SITU,ALSO YOU MIGHT NEED TO REMOVE BUMPER DEPENDS IF BAR GOES UNDER OR THOUGH BUMPER.I DIDN'T HAVE TO REMOVE BUMPER/EXHAUST ONLY TRIM IN BOOT!

We had tow bars fitted to both our cars last weekend (a nearly new Mondeo and an 18 month old Picasso), both with twin electrics, and one with an Al-Ko ball, about £360 for the two, so your price doesn't seem bad.  Just get the Pathfinder home (next weekend I hope), and we're all set!!

Yep does sound like a very good price. We had a towbar fitted to our X reg Mondeo last year and it cost us £173. We did look at the options of fitting one ourselves but took the easy way out and got it fitted.

Towsure fitted our C8 towbar for £150 last year, so your price is comparable. CCC quoted us £200.

Interesting thread .. I've been quoted 220+vat for towbar+dual electrics for a new honda crv.
Also was quoted 320+vat for a removable version.
(These were in Belfast)

I assume the electrics have to stay, or can you get "removable" sockets with a removable towball ? - Mabye some sort of plug & socket thing ?

I want to remove it for appearance sakes only, but if the electrics are still visible, then it defeats the purpose

Also, since it will be used with an alko stabiliser, will a "normal" removable towball work ?

Cheers,
Declan
