Has anyone ever tried sleeping on sheepskins instead of conventional camping mattresses? I want to be really comfy but would love not to have to inflate or put anything 'up '! Just a silly glamping thing or a real possibility? What are your thoughts?

I would think a sheepskin big enough to sleep on wouldn't pack as small as a camp bed and good sim, I take a small sheepskin for beside the bed and that doesn't pack down very small.

I would think the sheepskin not thick enough to sleep on,you will still feel the floor..why don't you get a posadas/kampa campbed, they just fold out,no "putting up" as such. Your choice of course, but a good nights sleep makes or breaks a camp.

The kids have used them over a SIM or air bed for extra warmth but I think a sheepskin thick enough to used on it's own would be a HUGE pack size. You can get roll up mattresses but again, the pack size would be large, it would just need unrolling though.

I tell you what would be better and thats a Reindeer pelt. They have hollow hairs and really really insulating (probabally better than any sim etc) and are very warm to lie on. They need some cushioning so put ontop of a sim or airbed works best. Having lied on an icebed in Canada on them I can vouch for thier insulating properties. Dont take up as much room as sheepskin. Plenty for sale online

It is not just the warmth you need to think about but the padding from the ground. As Zeelees says I think you will find the ground very hard under you with one of those.
