Our Next door Neighbour was a caravan owner, anyhoo they moved and gave us a Portable Toilet as they knew we camped a lot.

Problem is we havent got a clue what to do with it.

it splits into 2 seperate parts (base and seat)has a flush and a pull out section that opens the section for waste to travel to the base unit. we also have 2 chemicals a blue tank perfumed and a red top tank rinse additive.

Is there a Link anywhere on what on earth we are to do with all this. The word additive suggests mixing with either water or is it the blue stuff and what ratio. does the blue stuff go into the base unit and how much? again is it mixed with water?

How do we empty it on a site? Ive seen some with an extra tube that connects to something on a caravan site but we dont have this with it. I couldnt find anything with a manufacturers name on it so cant check that website.

Any advise would help as would like to start using it this year for those night time visits for the missis and 9 year old.

Phil

Hi we bought a second hand Thetford Porta Potti and found the instructions online which helped.

Ours clicks together, the waste tank sits at the bottom and the toilet seat part at the top. You fill the tank at the top with the red stuff which is then used to flush the toilet. The blue stuff goes in the tank at the bottom to break down any waste and disguise any smells.

When you empty it on site you just take the bottom part to the chemical disposal point. Ours has a short tube that swings out from the base for emptying. Usually there is a hosepipe for rinsing so you just tip the waste down the chemical disposal, rinse everything out, make sure you leave the area spotless and fill up your tanks again.

Handy tips? Be aware that the bottom tank gets very heavy when it starts to fill up. Ours can last about 3 days before emptying (it does have a gauge on it) but by then it weighs a ton. We are thinking of getting a trolley for it!

I have never used regular toilet paper in case it blocks up but I dont buy the expensive Thetford stuff either - we use cheap Tesco paper.

I dont bother now with the red/pink stuff in the top, just use plain water. Some use cheap washing liquid I think, you can search on here. You may need to search online for how much to dilute your chemicals by as they are all different. I have started buying blue tablets that are very handy.

We invested in a toilet tent and its been brilliant for night times and when you are camped a long way from the facilities.

Just seen your pics. So on the top you have the flush on one side and the opening for your red stuff on the other.

The bottom pic is puzzling me a bit. The tube that comes out is very small, this would surely be too small for toilet paper or any solid waste? The emptying tube on ours is about 4" in diameter. Maybe someone else will recognise this model and can advise.

That is not a tube that is the handle that pulls the flap out.

Put about half a cup full of blue liquid directly into the toilet & a smaller amount in the fresh tank on the right hand side, when it is full make sure the flap is pushed right in remoe top from bottom, on the bottom you will see a large pipe that turns round to empty it there is also asmall button that you press to let air in s it emptys. I suggest you try a few dummy runs with clean water.

These are the instructions that I did for our scout group.

Potti Preparation

A. Separate the poo tank from the flushing water tank
1. Slide the (spring-loaded) locking latch at the back of the potti to the left (“unlocked”) position and hold.
2. Lift flushing water tank to separate the tanks.
B. Add deodorant
3. With the poo tank (lower) sitting flat, open poo slider by pulling handle out.
4. Add deodorant through the slider opening. Use portable toilet “Holding Tank Deodorant” (sample included in built-in storage compartment.
5. Add water to cover tank bottom. Close slider and replace deodorant bottle.
C. Re-attach the tanks
6. Align front hinge with front inter-locking tabs.
7. To secure tanks, press downwards gently…they should click into place.
D. Fill the fresh water tank
8. Remove water fill cap and fill tank with fresh water only, stream water will do.
(DO NOT add holding tank chemicals to the fresh water tank assembly.)
9. Replace and tighten the flushing water fill cap securely.
10. Place the potti on level ground, the potti is now ready for use.
E. Prepare the toilet tent
11. The toilet tent needs toilet roll (preferably in a waterproof container), hand wipes & nappy sacks or hand washing facilities before the toilet facilities can be considered ready.

Scout Portapotti
Instructions
Emptying the Poo Tank

1. DO NOT LET THE POO TANK BECOME TOO FULL.
Empty the poo tank when the poo tank level indicator starts to change from green to red.
2. Make sure the poo tank slider handle is in the shut position.
3. Remove flushing water tank from poo tank.
4. Make sure the poo tank slider handle is in the shut position (again).
5. Carry the poo tank to any permanent toilet facility.
6. Remove pour-out spout cap while the spout is pointing upwards (keep the cap somewhere safe).
7. Swivel the pour-out spout to empty and press the vent button to help the poo tank drain without glugging/splashing.
8. When all the contents have drained, replace the spout cap and swivel the spout into the stored position.
5. Rinse the poo tank and prepare it as described in Part 1 (Preparation).
6. Reassemble the potti.

Scout Porta Potti
Instructions
What to do to have a poo

Before having a wee/poo

1. With the seat lid shut, open and close the poo slider.
2. Open the lid and put 2 sheets of toilet paper in the potti (to stop poo sticking to the poo slider).
If there’s no toilet paper, ask a leader for some more.
3. Press the flush to check there is water (if no water comes out, tell a leader).
4.     Have a wee/poo.

After a wee/poo

1. Pull out the poo slider handle.
2. Push down on the flush to rinse the bowl.
3. Push the poo slider handle all the way in (to stop smells).
4. Close the lid.

Remember
If you are not sure what to do, just ask a leader.
