hi
iam sorry i know someone has already posted about heaters but I'am a bit confused as which one to buy. We have a 5 berth vango icarus and we were a little cold last year so we're going electric hook up this year. Can i assume that the higher the watt the more power ie hotter. And what should be the highest watt for a campsite power supply. Hope this makes sense
thanks in advance for any replies
Having a tent will hardly allow heat to retain inside as the flysheet will 'leak' through it, losing a lot of heat. that's why lots of campsites aren't fond of your usage of electrical heat.
To eliminate the "wattage" question, consider using one of these to get the chill out.
They use little gas containers that are obtainable nearly everywhere in the UK and most of the camp site shops for reasonable prices so no need to haul vast amounts to the camp site. One thing though. Do not use them when you;re sleeping as there can be a build up of toxic gases unless you air the tent which will lose the heat.
But for 15 minutes of burning to get the chill out before you put your fleece sweater on they are perfect.
PS: Make sure they are secured against lack of oxygen or build up of O². That makes them usable in closed rooms (or tents)Still, do not use one overnight; just to be sure...
Hi we are away now! Arrived to pitch on Thursday and I have an outwell Hawaii reef. That night morning we were hit by frost my god it was cold! Thought we were fully prepared but that was a shocker. Now we bought a 2kw cheap heater from one of the supermarkets but it just wasnt up to the servere cold didnt make much of a difference as we are here for 3 more nights and could not face another night like that we bought another fan heater!! Now its from Argos cost £20 and is a delongi 3kw I cant recommend this heater enough and works perfectly with 16 ehu
so this heater this year is our best buy thumbs up from me

andreaslovelys - been toying with the idea of buying the delonghi, so thanks for the heads up. We bought a cheap 2kw heater from fleabay, but not convinced .... Did you run them both, or just the delonghi?

Hi sorry I got make of heater wrong its challanger still £20 and from Argos!! No I didnt run them together. This one can run as 1.5 kw or 3 kw theres two settings, its on now and we are lovely and warm as out maybe to warm! Its also rated well on Argos reviews. For near frost conditions this one does the job

Our heater can be used on 1kw or 2kw setting. Have never had to use it on the 2kw setting - 1kw is more than enough to heat our large Khyam Ontario 8 tent.
We bought a heater from Argos before we went away on Wednesday - Thursday night was VERY cold, I looked on my iPhone when I woke up Friday morning and it said it was 0 degrees, feels like -7 degrees (and it did, it was bitterly cold!) When inside the tent it didn't feel like the heater was making much difference but you could definitely tell when you went outside and came back in again!! There was a thick frost on the tent it was that cold.
It was much warmer the next 2 nights, you could definitely feel the benefit from the heater (we don't use it overnight)
I would never trust a gas heater (i have a 5 yr old) nor do I want the expense of buying gas cartridges when I'm already paying for hook up. And I'm pretty sure caravanners use more electric than tenters do with 2 kw heaters. Also gas heaters cause condensation whereas electric ones don't.
