Hi, just returned from 1st camp of the year, just local at BobbyBees, at Burton Fleming to check all euipment was in working order.

Had a great weekend only spoilt by th airbed we bought in Feb from Go Outdoors. We treated ourselves to a triple depth airbed purely because they were having a sale.

MY husband gave it the once over last Tuesday, good thing he did, the electric wire to the unit had been cut, accidently/on purpose who know's, but one thing is for sure I would have been so P***** to arrive on site to a useless bed, any trip to Outdoors exchanged said bed with £5 goodwill voucher, thanks GO.

So we arrive pitch, settling go out like you do for a few beers, back to the tent & to bed, we had to blow up the tent 4 times during the night, not happy bunnies were we.

And the same again Saturday night, we had planned to come home on Sunday anyway, now just waiting for GO to open on Monday.

Do any of you have one of these airbeds, are they woth it or should we stick to a normal one.

I also used a rubberised cotton airbed for years with no problems but since changing to modern double height airbeds I have found that not only do they need pumping up at least once a day but they can get very cold at night as well...even with loads of insulation.

Having just come back from a very chilly two days I went out yesterday and bought a camp bed. I already had a self inflating camping mat so I intend to put this on top as a 'mattress'. It seems to be a good combination and many campers seem to be changing to this set-up.

They don't make normal ones any more. We had rubberised cotton ones for years and they lasted forever (almost), then all you could get was PVC and we've had the triple-depth and the single depth and they all go down in the night. We cut our losses and got SIMs instead. They're lovely and toasty and easy to sleep on once you get used to turning over with no bounce. We're in our 50's though and, going forward I've no idea how we're going to get up off the floor in a couple of years;) On all other aspects, I wish I'd discovered them sooner. They also leave you with so much more room in the tent.

I bought a good old red and blue rubberised one last year from Argos so they do still make them.  I think Towsure had them too.
