Does anybody know if these cables are ok to use? I'm not too sure as they seem a bit cheap compared to most camping shops and appear to be missing a fuse from what I can see...

Thanks

No, you're correct to be unsure - they have no RCD protection or MCB and should not be used outside (or in a damp environment).

If you scroll down that page, the items shown left, centre and right are the type you need.

See here. (as Pepe said as I was typing this!)

These things should be made illegal ! I do think most sites will ask you to remove it if they see you are using them.

Why do people think they can go buy a 4 way plug adapter, a length of orange cable and a hook up plug and sell it as safe! He does say "its tested before it is sent"! So thats alright then !

Unbelievably, he has sold 19 of them since the 28th March 2012!

It would be difficult to make them illegal as you would have to apply the legislation to all other types of extension lead,The item may be tested and it will pass the required insulation tests etc so it will not be unsafe,it's the environment that it will be used in that makes it unsafe.

There are lots of people who use an extension lead at home for their lawnmowers etc without considering using an RCD and rely on the consumer unit RCD (thats if it has one) for protection which is no different to using one of the ebay ones on a campsite that complies with the 17th edition regs.

I wouldn't use one but I wouldn't use an unprotected ext lead at home either.

If any legislation were to be effective it would need to ban the use of this type of extension on a campsite.

Making them illegal was thinking out loud but you get the gist of what i meant.

They would pass an insulation test, yes and as you say it is the environment that makes them unsafe.

As far as i know they are not welcomed on sites but i guess there must be a few that are used as it would be tricky to see them once they are plugged in and inside a tent!

I think the main risk is to people buying them and using them abroad where the electrics may not be up to U.K. standards.

The Sunncamp unit only has 15m of cable which could be a bit short, and they don't say what size the cable is.Looking at the pictures it appears to have an RCD& MCB but it's a pity they don't give you the full specification
