He and his Dad take one each when they go camping.

Is a Swedish Army Trangia different to the standard Trangia that has been on sale for the past 40 years?

I've got one. a stainless steel one (just to be different) I have only played with it so far. It is more of a Bushcraft cooker than for normal camping. The normal Trangia that has been going for years is better suited to that. I tend to use the suitcase single burner stove for the high heat cooking and the old Trangia for the canned stuff like beans. Works a treat and is cheap to cook like that. Also if I run out of fuel for one of them I have the other to continue cooking with.
------------- Armchair camper with more tents than I will probably ever get the use out of.

I have three (don't ask) I don't really use it for cooking as it gets too hot. I bought one of the reducer rings, but can't get on with that either. So I tend only to use it to boil water for tea etc. Really good for outdoor use in strong winds, tends to work like a blast furnace the windier it gets.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Just had a look, they're so cheap! But I must admit, I prefer the look of the regular trangias!
I love trangias though, I have a strange dislike of gas (except at home where I have an electric hob which I'd give anything to swap for a gas one!!) but I just don't trust bottles of gas for some reason! I do get some strange looks from some people when I'm cooking meals on my trangias, oh well!

Great bit of kit, but best used just for boiling up or heating tinned food. Try frying anything and you`ll be in a whole world of "scrubbing up". Very, very versatile.

I used to have one of these but stopped using meths stoves after witnessing a nasty accident involving one, so tend to see gas as safer! I guess we all have our preferences at the end of the day.
