We are brand spanking new to camping and was wondering can anyone help. We have bought a campingaz brand stove and before I go out and buy a campingaz gas cylinder could I use a patio heater gas cylinder instead, if so can I use the regulator that is already on the patio heater cylinder and just connect it to the stove.
Thanks,
Confused :-0
I camp in the uk mainly so for me I put a calor regulator on my camping gaz stove as calor is far cheaper and much easier to get and just like you I already had a cylinder.
I think as long as the tube you have is the same diameter as the regulator there should be no problem.
Would'nt advise it farrellys. If you consider the health safety reg's alone,it's a no,no. Think you could of picked up your gaz supply in a deal with the stove included if you hunted around,a recent post mentioned a good offer for stove& bottle plus extras in the Manchester area. Please seek out the correct equipment when using gaz.

Give you another tip.You get a hell of a lot of cooking time out of the 907 gaz bottle. So if cramming things in the car will be a bit of an issue try the smaller bottle sizes.Ample for two or three weeks camping in one year for a family of four.
Hi, We use our BBQ patio gas cylinder on our camping gaz stove with no problems, We just brought a spare regulator from Go Outdoors and put it on the stove to save us from having to swap them around.
I am sure your gas cylinder is usable on the chef twin burner stove, it is either propane or butane which I think in the UK are a better bet than camping Gaz as this is the most expensive and difficult to replace whilst out in the wild. Nearly every decent campsite or local store has the calor gas variety to swap cylinders. I use a camping gaz chef cooker with a 7kg butane cylinder all the time !
Might be worth looking at the cost of a second hose and regulator to suit your cylinder, if it is a clip on then it can be swapped from one to the other without much bother, far nicer than having to undo screw clips and squeeze tube over fittings back and forth. We recently bought a second regulator , hose and clips to allow us to swap and the kit was under £10 delivered ! Just check if your propane or butane and the size of the cylinder as these will be needed to ensure a suitable regulator. In use propane works well below polite camping temperatures and gives a slightly hotter flame , butane is best above +5 degrees.
On this link is the page from CampingGaz U where they tell you that you can use the Camping Chef double burner with either their gaz or propane and butane if you use the correct regulator. Read left of page half way down !

If you want to run it off a calor butane cylinder (blue) then you need a 28mb regulator if you want to run it off propane (red) then you need A 37mb regulator. As you say camping gaz is much more expensive than calor. Patio gas is propane
Yes you can use your patio gas cylinder on your Campingaz stove, it will run equally well on butane or propane. Just connect patio gas regulator with rubber gas pipe & jubilee clips to stove in the same way as it is connected to your barbecue & connect up your cylinder.

As long as you use the correct regulator and hose it is fine. The stove can operate on butane or propane gas.
