we would really appreciate some advice on sleeping comfortably on the double bed made up from the front sofas in our caravan!
i have tried the cushions all ways round & turning them, but within seconds of lying down theres a 'dip'! I swear i could feel the wooden slats! I've heard mattress toppers talked about, but surely they would just dip into the dip already there? As a sofa the cushions are fine & we dont want to spend money replacing them as plan to change van in 18 months!
Any ideas welcomed or anybody wanting to let me know how they get on with a matress topper please comment!
Thank you everyone! & looking forward to a decent nights sleep!
they dont actually move (the fitted sheet seems to hold them all together!) its the flattening or dip thats created when you lie on them! Maybe i'm asking too much, might sleep in the awning on a blow up bed occassionally!
ah OK I get what you mean now. how about a double sim on top? more likely to smooth the dips than a tempur topper. or add some foam stuffing into the cushions where they need it?
I feel your pain. Literally !!! We tried using a duvet under the sheet. It still was not the best but better. Give it a try. It's a cheap option. Even bring one from home to see how it goes. We tried mattress toppers and al-sorts but still was awful but I do have bad hips
We gave up and bought a van with a fixed bed but not everyone is in a position to do that. So good luck pal in your comfy bed hunt xxx
------------- Live every day as if it's your last but not at risk to others :-)
the plan is to change van to a fixed bed end of next year hence not wanting to spend too much on it but, wanting to be to be able to get out of bed in the morning not in pain! Think i will be using anything i can to pad it out a little!
Can you not get some memory foam for the space you're having trouble with, its quite heavy stuff but does the trick for us, then when were not using it, just roll it up and stick it wherever you have space.
I really sympathise with you - We normally sleep (I use the word sleep loosely) with a single sleeping bag opened up and spread over the cushions then the other sleeping bag opened on top of us - I still haven't had a good nights sleep and ours have no dips !!! We've also tried sleeping on the 2 couches, OH slept like a log but I didn't but then again I never slept on the airbeds in the tent either - sorry I can't offer a solution but at least you know that others are suffering like you

I`m a tenter so forgive me if this is a stupid suggestion......could you not put a double airbed there instead of the cushions.?
thanks, i had been thinking of trying this, still have our old blow up ones from when we spent weekends under canvas (well nylon!)!
well thank you guys! i take some comfort in the fact i'm not the only one suffering! & have a few things to try heres hoping we all get a bit more restful sleep!
We used to have a similar problem in our TT, where the two cushions zip together to make the bed tried all thing but now use a raskelf foam topper- sleep really well now.
We had a similar problem, but all of the cushions have seen better days but can't afford / justify the expense of complete new upholstery. We measured & bought foam for under the seats & an extra piece (which sits in the rear dinette or awning during the day). when measuring the for the foam to go between the seats, we set the bed up as normal, then one of us (the heaviest) laid on the bed to see how much it dipped then added that amount onto the thickness of foam under the seats (so it's thicker) & it's worked a treat (with a memory foam topper as well!!).
Just a memory foam didn't work as it dipped into the dip, but with the new foam it really helps...pain in the bum to make the bed at night, but at least now I actually get some sleep without waking in excrutiating pain in my back. Really wish we could go for the complete reupholstery option, but it's just not worth the cost as it's a twin dinette caravan which is 16yrs old!!
