Off to Spain later in the year and have a question re the vital importance of keeping my beer cold ! Can anyone advise as to the best portable fridge to do the job and also have room for the odd packet of peas ?
I have my eyes on a Dometic Combicool RC 1700 or 2200 three-way fridge on my long term wish list for when I camp in warmer places such as southern France.
The 1700 will chill to 30 deg C below the ambient temperature, and the 2200 33 deg C below ambient. Both comes with an ice cube tray!
I believe they are on chill mode only when hooked up to the car's 12V battery to keep the content cool.
My plan is to keep it plugged in while driving, then load it with grocery by shopping close to the camp site en-route, and hook up the fridge to the site's EHU soon after arrival.
This way, frozen items will remain frozen for the duration of my stay.

The only problem with the £69 one is that it has one shelf, as opposed two the two from the £99 one.
We started with the smaller one some years ago, and traded up .... finding the extra space, especially when in a hot country, to be crucial.
As DK168 says ... those units work on 30 or 33 degrees below ambient temp. If ambient happens to be in the 40's, which is more than possible in Spain ... then your beer will be at 10 or more degrees.
A compressor fridge will keep working as long as the thermostat 'tells it to' ... so you'll get much lower temps.
